I remember thinking as I was watching him play those games how good his positioning is and how quick he goes post to post. That aspect of the game is like day and night compared to Cory.

He’s a big dude so his positioning is key. He doesn’t give much room for the player to shoot at.

I'm excited for Blackwood this season. I think people WAAAAAAY overhype the dire straights of NJ's goaltending.

First of all, the Devils only need league average goaltending to take a wild card spot.

Second, Cory played pretty good towards the end of the year and did more than just hold his own in the 6 Worlds games he played in. People act like Pekka Rinne didn't bounce back after surgeries at an old age too. And Cory won't play in more than 35-40 games any way.

Third, Blackwood played only 8 games less than Carter Hart and had almost identical stats to him. And everybody praises Hart.

Fourth, this is the best team either of our goalies have ever had in front of them and arguably the best NJ team we've had since the early 2000's.

I don't think it's unreasonable to question the goaltending but that doesn't mean there are no reasons to think it will be good, either. Having two goalies that are potentially capable starters it takes a lot of pressure off the other to carry the bulk of games. Schneider is older and doesn't need to play 60+ games anymore. I think this will be a good situation for both.

If Blackwood turns into the goal tender he was predicted to be, the Devs will really have a great young core. So far so good.

I’ll take the over on Cory playing 40 games.

Good point about Rinne.

I think the 2012 team would disagree with you.
