Thanks Todd, nice write-up. Given how Corey played down the stretch, I am optimistic he will have a pretty good season. You're dead on that the more talent around him should translate into more wins.

At 33 years old we shouldn't be expecting elite goaltending from Cory, but he should provide at least league average. I don't think this is any more complicated then he stunk because he was hurt. He's healthy, he's fine.

What I'm nervous about is there is no one after Blackwood in the organization that seems like they belong in the NHL. If Schneider or Blackwood gets hurt are we calling up Evan Cormier? I mean technically its probably no worse then having Eddy Lack as your insurance plan but still that was awful....

What is difference b/w save % and high danger save % ? The latter number looks abysmal.

The short answer (and I'm not expert) is some shots get classified as high danger due to shooting location and maybe other factors. So it's how many difficult saves did a goalie make. Regular save % includes all saves. The easy and routine are treated the same as a breakaway shot.

I would love to know why Blackwood gets 0 hype what so ever ? I dont want to sound like I am talking down Carter Hart ( I trully believe in his talent and potential ).

I get he won multiple CHL goalie of the year accolades and started off his NHL career pretty damn well.

With that said Blackwood was a 2nd round selection ( which is usually high for goalies ) and the 2nd goalie taken in his draft. He also was a OHL goalie of the year winner and started off his NHL career very well.

Im not saying he should be getting Hart level hype but I am thinking he isnt getting enough.

I dont even really think one outlet that has done the Devils season prediction has said he is our goalie of the future but they all point out that our season depends on goaltending and Cory Schneider.

The guy from the athletic who did the devils camp mentioned Gilles Senn being pretty legit so we will have to see what he is this upcoming season in north america.

I agree, he seems to be flying under the radar for sure. I also think Hart is a bit over hyped. Kind of waiting for Philly to do what it always does....kill goalie careers

No one pays attention to Devils other than Devil fans. Also, less hype is good. Helps them focus on their game.

Most writers (not Todd) act like they want to eat the corn out of ever Ranger goalie’s poop. Ironic.

Blackwood was highly regarded when drafted but blew monkeys while in the AHL. So he sort of took the shine off himself.

Not a Schneider fan. Terrrible in shoot-outs. And whether you like them or not, they are here, they count, and he costs the team points and momentum by losing so many shootouts.

Additionally. it was obvious to pretty much everyone but Devils management that Schneider was not as healthy as he claimed to be early in the season. When he first got hurt, it was December/January time frame. How did he get out there sooner? You can watch guys in any sport, and when they start with hip & core problems, it always takes a long time, if ever , to recover. They always say they feel better, but they are not at the point the need to be.

That is on Shero and Hynes, not Schneider, who wants to play.

Brian Boyle was taking shootouts...I don't think you can blame a goalie for losing shootouts

The additional talent and growth of younger players should make the team more dangerous in a shootout this year. But shootouts don't exist come playoff time so who cares...

To be fair, our AHL team has been a black hole for quite some time, especially with our better prospects making the jump straight to the NHL. Hischier and Bratt, and this year likely Hughes and Smith. We haven’t put much “talent” into the AHL short of McLeod and Bastian.

Many goalies are great at 33yrs old. I'm not too concerned about Schneider or Blackwood.

Gusev and Ovi contracts end in the same year... I fear Washington could overpay for Gusev if he pans out nicely.

Fantasy wise you think Schneider is a better risk than Quick?

just pick someone else entirely. I don't like to take risks at that position in fantasy. IF you have a top tier goalie, a Schneider/Blackwood combo could be good. I'd like to think Jersey will be a better team and get more wins than LA, but Quick is still a good goalie too.

I'm not helping lol. My answer is C. Other.

It's that time of year again..
Todd will have to forgive my spam.

I have a few openings in my "hockeybuzz" yahoo fantasy league, and always offer it up to Devils fans first.

No cash, 20 teams, large rosters, lots of stats.
Live snake draft, no keepers, date TBD. Drafts usually take over 2 hours and can really make or break your season as much as any other league. It's an experience.

Message me if you're interested.
