I feel that this is the year where the Leafs should really be a legitimate Cup contender.
It amazes me that player/agent/father greed could potentially get in the way of making it happen this year.
I question how much tolerance Leafs fans will have should there be another player hold out. I know I'm sick of hearing about this situation and the longer it lasts the lesser my opinion of Marner becomes.
Hopefully there is some finality to this soon, one way or another. |

For Wedgie:
It wasn't someone from the Habs that talked about Galchenyuk's substance abuse.
It was Mario Tremblay, who decided to keep making an ass of himself. |

Virtually every good RFA not named Aho is holding out right now. This isn't just Marner. People need to calm down, there's no way the NHL is going into next season without all of those guys. I have faith it'll get sorted out. But you can bet that the owners will try to put restrictions on RFA holdouts after this summer. |

The hope I would assume is that this is a "contending year." The core is signed (we'll see with Mitch) and there are only a few noticeable holes on the team.
Then next offseason is the "evaluation year." Where are the Sandin's, Lilybusts', Bracco's etc. of the world at. Potential to use a lot of cap space with the potential departure/retaining of Barrie/Muzzin/Ceci. Plus planning for the expansion draft.

Monstrous. He barely got any PP time and if he did was on the second unit. I think a lot of people underestimate him or just don't watch him because so many of their (frank)ing games are at 10:30pm EST. |

That 6M contract is going to look like a steal very, very soon. |

It's really set up like a 5 year deal when you think about it. He will have arbitration rights and his actually salary in the final year is 10 million. That will mean if he files for arbitration he could get a 1 year deal worth oodles. It would also walk him to UFA. So basically tack that year on and it's a 5 year deal with a 6M cap hit for 4 years and a 10+ cap hit for the 5th year. In reality it's sort of like a 5 year 35M contract, except it delays part of his cap hit for 4 years at the expense of one year, when they probably will have cap space and poop figured out.
Still a great deal for the Sharks. It works for the player too - what I like to see |
