Tyler Cameron: Predicting Blackhawks Goals – Defence
Time to jump back into the prediction machine to take a stab how many goals the Blackhawks will score next year.

Like last year, I will be breaking it down from the defence position, followed by my guestimates at forward.

Other than De Haan's injury, I think the defense appears more set barring a big surprise in camp...moreso than the fwds anyway.

The goings on with the D in RFD will also be interesting this season, but I'm definitely anxious to see if De Haan, Matta and some other factors (support from the fwd group and a full camp with Colliton) can help keep the puck out of the net more often than not.

I could definitely see Gus hitting double digits in goals again.

call me overly optimistic or at the koolaid fountain of denial...

I expect this team to score in the 280-285 area...
GA will be a big improvement in the 200-210...

better special teams, craw and lehner in net, stability at the blueline, huge years from stome and adb, shaw being back is huge and i expect a couple of wild cards to come through: nylander or sikura or perlini, gus might get 20 this year, and i expect seab to be better

they will compete for a top 3 division spot...

I think there will be GA improvement, but to get the amount of improvement you're suggesting the forwards are going to have to be much more committed to their end of the ice than in the past few years.

The more things change, sometimes no matter still the same old results. To witess the Blackhawks powerplay with Kane commandeer and Keith and Seabrook firing away .....was often an eyesore. The ast. coach in charge of the pp changed a couple of times or sometimes was Q even in charge of the extra man advantage. For whatever reason the pp was so predictable and the strategy/result was bs . no man in front of the net was often imvisible..oh, right AA went to the net..

Once upon a time - albeit briefly - though Bolland with Big Buff in front was a development in making. Nope. Buff was mishandling or couldn't stop a bouncing puck at the blueline - their blueline.

We never did get a straight answer for pp malady. We heard how more movement was necessary

Well now we have what reportedly is a bright new head coach. Keith has probably lost or will loosr a lot of his pp duty. Especially if someone else could take over. Gus will be the main guy and i expect that he gets more than 14 goals. Colliton will not tolerate any longer the horecrap and if it upsets Kaner, Colliton is going to tell him the structure strategy is changing. It is Colliton's team and not Kane's team to coach. Just watch and see how things change. By season end Keith better not have any pp time..There are plenty of new options and those prospects on defense will be taking that job
Meanwhile anyone but Keith and Seabrook.

Maata, deHahn wiil get some opportunitues..
Oh maybe for a while Keith gets outbthere on pp but his pp time is enfing

Yes. All the time. It was worse when I used Chrome. A while back, I switched to Firefox, and they stopped for a long time, but now they're back.

When that happened off and on in past seasons, i solved it - at least fir a while - by closing the site void it off my cell phone. Then sign on again. One problem.is the advertisers and crap Ekund allows.
There are bloggers here who can expound all about this. They have chimed in previously. You can get around the crap

Flames are looking for defense. What would it cost us to get Derek Ryan for 3C?

Can we please get over the importance of the power play? The Hawks have won SC with a below average PP, as have others.

If you want the Hawks to win, you’d be much more concerned with the PK, as well as the GAA. Want to make the playoffs? The GAA & PK better be in the top half of the league, and the top 10 for both would probably make them a playoff lock.

I’m not expecting a Jennings Trophy, as there are a lot of moving pieces that need to fall into place for the Blackhawk GAA & PK to be average.

My hope is that Gus goes on a 60 point pace, and Boqvist shows he's the real deal. That would allow us to trade Gus at the deadline, bring up Boqvist to fill his role, and use the picks and prospects gained from Gus to turn into a 3C+.

What if Dach has already cemented himself in the 3C role? Stranger things have happened...or maybe Kurashev.

Good point. If Dach is a solid 3C, then I think this team could be a contender. If that's the case, and Gus is playing adequate defense while putting up points, I wouldn't mind losing him to free agency after the season.

I fully expect he will.

I would expect Kurashev to spend a season in Rockford then compete for a position the following year. I'm looking forward to watching his progress, the Hawks don't have too many top-6 forward prospects.

Do you think Wise or Barrett have top 6 potential?

agree the pp success is overrated...pk and GA and 5 on 5 play determines team success

I think they just need more GF than GA on a nightly basis, and they should be ok.

Meant to add this into this blog; the defence should be more comfortable from the start of the season so as that comfort grows... the defence should improve + a reason I have the GF by D coming in around the same as last season.

The Hawks won't be as run-and-gun as last year but Coach JC will still want the D to activate into the offence. Should even out IMO.

Love Kurashev and think you're right on with his timing DK.

I suspect he'll see a few games this season as well as a call-up. Then, as you state, compete for a full-time role come Sept 2020.
