What evidence is there than Guerin isn't fit? There's this misconception out there that "old school hockey guys" use zero analytics and make all roster moves based on grit and gut feelings, which I find to be erroneous. I don't know how Guerin manages, so I can't say what his methods are, but I also wouldn't be dismissive of him either.

I shutter to think that when Rutherford is fired or steps away from the Penguins, Pierre will interview for the job. That prospect gives me nightmares.

He doesnt think GMJR has been as good since Botts left and feels WB/S is much worse since his departure as well.

I'd like someone to list all the trades and moves with Botts and all the trades and moves with Geurin to compare. I feel like there's been equally good and bad with both. Of course with Botts he obtained Kessel, thats a big and very good move

What an absolute joke of a blog. The entire thing is based on speculation and perception without a shred of actual evidence.

Do we even know what Guerin does or how the breakdown of tasks are handled between Rutherford, Guerin and Karmanos?

RW, you sir should put your name in the hat for Minnesota's GM. With all your hockey knowledge, you could easily right that ship and be on your way to the hall of fame. Hell, you show them this blog and I think you'll get the position immediately.

No, they want someone who at least tells the owner they have a chance to get back into contention. (Yes, I know you're being sarcastic).

I do agree with RW that the Minnesota job is a bad one right now. Owner wants to win now, but most of the best players are past their prime and on long contracts. Spurgeon could easily leave for a team closer to contention. And you'll be on the job almost a year before you get an off-season to do anything significant in free agency or the draft.

I agree it's probably not as bad as some think. GMJR does tend to make a lot of riskier moves and he had so many pay off in a short time that maybe he was due some regression.

The UFA moves are the hardest to defend. That definitely feels like more miss than hit the past 3 off-seasons.

Trades, some have been better than others. Unless you thought they could make it work with Phil (I didn't), I don't think the trades have killed them when you weigh positives and negatives, but maybe I'd feel different if I looked at all of them.

It is exciting being in on UFA’s though. When they got Hossa and Iginla (even though neither really stuck) I didn’t think they were in on them and was psyched that they grabbed them.

Monday morning QB, perhaps keeping the picks/ players may have helped, but getting Phil was exciting and successful.

Side note, I am aware of Shero’s involvement in Hossa and Iggy.

Macht & Matt: I did some research the last time we discussed Guerin. I’m no WBS expert but what I was seeing was that we were previously elevated in the standings because we had some of the higher scorers in the league and some solid goaltending. Murray got promoted, the goaltending dropped, some guys graduated out of the program either here or with other teams (guys like Sundqvist and Dea had large roles down there) and we lost some to retirement. Lots of things happened in a pretty quick timeframe. Even guys like Warsofsky were key and left but luckily were brought back. I think WBS is primed to have a pretty solid season

I am actually inclined to believe Wilson, as a Wild fan. For one, Guerin has admitted to Russo that he is an old school hockey guy, similar to Fenton, and thats a little disconcerting considering they need a forward thinking GM in a similar vein to Dubas, who can rid the team of some of these bad contracts. Nepotism rarely works out well in the NHL. I loved Modano as a player, but as loud voice in the GM selection process I have my reservations. I think the team made a huge gaff by not signing Waddell the day he came to interview. And I have a sinking feeling Guerin will come in and make even more of a mess of things.

I just saw that Yzerman acquired Erne from Tampa. Someone here just told me like a week ago that Tampa wasn’t trading anyone. Weird 😑

This is how I feel. Some trades didn't work out but some weren't JR's fault necessarily, and you never know how a player is going to fit on a team until you have him. The FAs, while relatively low salary, have been bad.

I think JR is a bargain shopper, always looking for the overlooked diamond in the rough. But then he sometimes overpays when he thinks he's struck gold, which defeats the purpose of bargain shopping.

I've been thinking that former GMs acquiring their former players is definitely "a thing" (we've seen this with JR, Botts, etc.). So if Guerin gets the Minnesota job, maybe he's the one with the grit boner for JJ? Maybe there's another player he likes and wants thrown in? Who's this Zucker guy? He doesn't even know him.

So if he plays with Bertuzzi it will be the Bert and Erne line.
