2. Auston Matthews - since entering the NHL, he leads the NHL in goals per minute, during a time in which Alex Ovechkin, the arguably best goal scorer to ever live, has scored 133 times. Matthews is also 5th in points per minute. A list of players that he has scored more points per minute than over the last three years is Kane, Ovechkin, Crosby, Malkin, Gaudreau etc. Also, during this time, he was a rookie, a sophomore, and he missed time with injury three times, including 25% of each of the last two years.

I mean, you're not wrong, and I agree that he should be #2 on the list, but how about some context for the bolded part?

Hughes struggled at Worlds due to his size, i expect him to have a not so great year for a #1 pick, would be better off 1 year in college. Not saying he will be bad but i don't think he is physically mature enough yet.

No, he struggled because both his linemates and playing time were inconsistent. How soon we forget how good he looked in the game against Russia and games where he played more than 10 second shifts.

Sure, he is small, but to say that size will prevent him from playing his game is just so tired at this point. He is bigger than players like Debrincat, Keller and Gaudreau and size very comparable to Kane and Marchand.

He has the skating and the vision to be more than fine in the NHL.

With that said, he shouldn't be on this list yet.

Fools look at a height and weight number and say dumb things like he's comparable to Kane and Marchand. He has the body of a boy, not a man, he's going to get pushed around and lose a lot of faceoffs.

That’s exactly what they said about Gretzky.

Certainly true to some extent. Nico Hischier has gotten pushed around a lot and is frequently thrown out of the face of circle. But in the big picture it hasn't stopped him from being a pretty good center.

There's not much point in arguing about what Hughes will or won't do.
We'll see soon enough.

I agree, please keep in mind that this was a response to an article that listed him as a better center than jack eichel....All i said is he will struggle a bit.

No, what fools do is twist "size comparable" to "comparable" and pass it off as a counterargument. Just because board play won't be his strength year one or maybe ever doesn't mean he can't be a dominant playmaker. To push someone around, you need to catch them first.

Just messin’ with ya. Both those Hughes boys are really narrow across the shoulders. I hope they don’t get hurt before they fill out a little more.

With the number of high quality prospects that get overhyped and then underperform I don't see how anyone gets listed as top 5 at their position before playing an NHL game.

No offense to James Tanner, but it seem.... incredibly optimistic.

I'm confident Hughes will settle in between 'Generational Talent' and 'Bust'.
Could be McJesus. Could be Yakupov.

I really don't get the argument saying that Hischier is better than Barzal because he "drives possession"

Barzal has killed Hischier in both Corsi% and Fenwick% so far in their careers

McDavid, Matthews, Eichel, Aho, Barzal.

Honorable to Petterson, Hischier, PLD and Strome (finally came around).

The separation between a lot of these guys isn't much at all and I'd be fine in the order changing a bit.

I’m partial to Pettersson over Eichel but your list is better than either of the other two.
