Didn’t know Clarke and Hart share a birthday. Hart was meant to be a Flyer!

What would someone have to do in order to surpass him?

The only player that could have was Lindros. If he had led them to a Cup in 1997 and didn't have his health issues, coupled with another Cup (2000), stayed with the team his whole life...could he have been the new gold standard?

I think BiggE is a bit too old for Tibbett's liking.

His franchise numbers alone are going to be hard to pass. In this era of free agency I find it hard to see people passing him. Heck G isn't going to and he's been here how long?

And to your bit about the cups. Yeah, no one is surpassing him for a long long LONG time.

To surpass him?
Win multiple Hart trophies and lead the team to multiple Cups would be a good start.

Honestly, even if someone did all of the above, may not be enough. With the exception of the short time in Minnesota and Florida, Clarke spent his entire adult life with the Flyers. I don't see that happening to often anymore.

Clarkie will never be surpassed. Aside from his notable statistical accomplishments, he never took a shift off; was a pain to play against and he made everyone around him a better player.

Clarke was a much better player than GM. His best player could have died due to a misdiagnosed injury by the medical staff, and Clarke's response was ""It's always something".

I'm not sure why being a great player entitles a guy to hang around the organization advising the current management indefinitely after almost 20 years of being unable to win a Cup as GM, even with no salary cap to get in the way.

Nice blog Bill I wonder if Carter could stop three shots at the same time, kick one out, glove save, and blocker save while reading out loud a Bill Meltzer blog on the center ice overhead screen, That is a pretty insane skill the kid has.

I have had the pleasure of talking to Eddie Westfall, Jiggs McDonald, Orland Kurtenbach, Darcy Rota but had the chance to talk to Bobby Clarke at a Canuck game and he was an inconsiderate wiener. Here I am dressed up in my Flyers jersey at a Flyers game in Vancouver, obviously a big Flyer fan. Clarke was standing by himself and I approached him politely and he just walked away pissed that a fan would talk to him ?? Never liked him since, great player and lousy GM

I still like the Big E better. Different era but Lindros was just as special.
