I could see either Toronto or Boston slipping however I think the Cats could challenge for the division.

I could also see the Sabres trading for a goalie if the season starts poorly behind shoddy goaltending.

I am already too negative about the team. If I start yelling about them for the 1000th time, i will be utterly insufferable

Ok, fair enough.

Shall we talk about JB’s boy Vladdy SoBottska now?

I do wonder where Zegras and Cole Muffler we’re on the Sabre draft board. How closely ranked were they?

This is a good post.

The same sentiment can be expressed for
Risto sucks cause Housley's system sucked
Yet, Eichel, Skins, Sam, Dahlin all played very good and enjoyed reading yed career years.

My primary grievance with Housley was an over reliance on veterans

He said he wanted to play an up-tempo style, but when given the chance to play CJ Smith and Pilut, he opted for Sobotka and Scandella instead. There was a disconnect between what he said, and what he did. He definitely absorbs some blame that could go elsewhere

But the d zone coverage was awful

How would you rate Phil’s gum chewing? Without checking the analytics, his CPS (chews per second) should at least be top third in the league, after adjusting for brand and flavor.

It was bad, no question. To argue that we had the best record in the NHL in spite of the coach, then the worst record in the NHL because of the coach, doesn't hold up to me. I blame the roster slightly more than the coaching. Doesn't bother me that some feel the opposite. Taking it to the extreme that it was a playoff caliber team, with horrendous coaching is too far to me.

Where is Housley Now?

Where is Bylsma Now?

Sabres Management and Ownership wanted Freddie Krueger before Housley

I’d throw out July 1, 2007 as well. But all these other listed are worse

My biggest was promoting Sam to the top line. At that moment, he gave up any hope of having a competent second line.

Phil's an assistant with Arizona, Dan with Detroit. Take a job coaching a bad team and that happens more often than not.

It’s both.

The roster certainly wasn’t good enough to sustain their November record

Only bad coaching let’s it get away as far as it did

this roster is much better then
blue jackets
flyers
red wings
sens
habs

on par with
canes
islanders
panthers
devils
rangers
and honestly pens

only rosters better in the east as a slam dunk IMO is bolts, leafs, bruins and caps

Sure, just feels to me like people (here and other sites) are shifting more and more of that blame onto the coach.

I dont know why he insisted in playing man on man defense. I dont think any other team in the league does it. I didnt watch enough of Nashville when he was an assistant there to know if he did it there and it worked. But man on man leads to exactly what happened to us over and over again last year.....we chased the opposition around in our end and watched the goals go in. And he refused to change the system. Man on man might work if every player on your team is faster than every other player in the NHL. Otherwise, you start chasing sooner or later. Especially 20 games in when the rest of the NHL figures out what you are doing. He was lost at sea with a piss-poor crew.

He deserves a lot of it.

He said and did things that were illogical.
