Sounds like skillsets that would be more useful in a GM position rather than a Coach who has a staff of what 3, 4 maybe.
I like the Krueger hire and look forward to his impact on the team, but it feels moreso like he is a GM-in-waiting to me.
Let's hope that Smith's 1st go around with the team was completely limited by Phil's insistence on running his D, and that Smith's D is far easier to learn and execute effectively. - IonSabres
i have no clue about Freddy as a coach, but a lot of Edmonton people said it was a good hire and he seemed to have turned that team around a little while he was there.. |

I am okay with the hire, but when looking at his performance in Edmonton, I also like to keep in mind it was a very small sample size. The Oilers were still under .500 in a shortened season, which could mean two things: 1. he could have had them playing to a better record if the season were 82 games long, or 2. he had them playing well for a short period of time.
He says the right things and appears to know what he is doing, but he still is an unknown when it comes to any sort of track record. |

Jack Wagon, what was the alternative?
He scores and it was what the market would bear. - TC4145
Could of traded for Gusev and outbid the Canes for Dzingel and still have $2M to spare. Or we could have done nothing and rode Johansson, Olofsson, Sheary, Girgensons/Smith down the left side and saved the $9M and have more long term cap flexibility. Skinner could score 50 this year and it won’t make a difference unless we get top 15 goaltending, have a strong d-corps, and Mitts fulfills his potential and becomes a 55-60 point 2C overnight. |

So, Dzingle wanted to come here? I doubt it.
And you want to overpay (or, "outbid") for that guy, but won't for a 26 year old who's already scored 250 goals in this league?

Two years at $3.5M would technically have outbid that offer he got from the Canes. Low risk move, if it didn’t pan out then he’s off the books. Skinner has 8 years to disappoint us and not live up to that contract. You guys can hate on me all you want but the second that shooting percentage goes down I’ll be here to tell you guys I told you so. |

Cool beans. Here you go.
His career average is 11% Sh%. The way he shoots, that allows him 30 goals per season. You must also keep in mind several other factors, largely one including quality chances. With an elite center, who he's rarely played with in his career, his quality chances skyrocket.
Expecting a 15% Sh% is asinine, and everyone knows it. But if he can roll around 11 or 12 during his tenure here, which there is zero evidence pointing towards the contrary, he's going to average 30-35 goals in an 82 game season. |

Overpay a top winger > Being delusional about cap space and attempting to lure an even better player, if he even considers Buffalo an option, sometime down the road when the entire fanbase and management feel it's the perfect time to add a big contract. That's like throwing a baseball through 1 singular gap in 20 lanes of cars on an LA highway driving at an imaginary 75 mph.
This needs to die a in a volcano. |

The Sabres 3rds don’t look that bad. I think with the lights on and not in the promo video, they will look sharp. White gloves too |

OR.. it could make no difference because he ends up no better than vesey - SabresFaninIndiana
OR he ends up being closer to Panarin
For the low cost of assets he’d cost,
I’d have liked to find out |

Do I, though.
I do. You're right.
I'm not the type to dwell on lost trades and free agents. I live on the bad opinions of others. Because it's August, and Tyler Dubinsky is a dirty, hunt-crazy, flat earther from a place where no one can possibly succeed in professional sports. |
