If I remember right, 39 confirmed that a few weeks ago. Credit where it's due.

Cool, none the less.

I dropped all of this info a couple weeks ago and basically said we would be hearing it now

He scored 40 goals last year and we drafted 7th overall Please explain to me the importance of wingers again.
- Swedish_Jesus

By that logic, NO ONE on our team is of “importance”

That’s the same BS i had to hear from a bunch of u guys about ROR

Skinner isn’t the reason our team wasn’t good last year

We aren’t tanking. But let’s be honest, look at the conference we are in. We are fringe playoffs at best. Cap space is more important 2021-2027 range when we are realistic cup contenders. I hope Skinner is still an elite goal scorer between the ages of 30-33 cause that’s when his goal scoring will actually matter.
- Swedish_Jesus

But if he was signed for 1-1.5mil less then that wouldn’t be a concern??

U can’t make that argument AND argue for Skinner signed at 8mil

Either signing him is ok, or it isn’t
Skinner at 8mil will still hurt our cap if he’s only a 25-30 goal scorer

This is the supposed third jersey if leaks are correct.

Im not gonna pulll "crystal baller" here and say I know this isnt it, but it looks like a kinda half assed mockup. The blues are different from the stripes to the "C" to the logo. It doesn't look like a professional mockup. But hey, they actually put out the turdburger, so I could be wrong.

I know this has nothing to do with the Sabres or Buffalo sports at all, but it's columns like these that make The Athletic so great.

Mike Leach is great. He's always good for a great quote or two.

"I think candy corn’s awful. You know, it’s like fruitcake. There’s a reason they only serve fruitcake once a year, because it’s awful. There’s a reason they only serve mint julep’s once a year, because they’re awful. Now, that does beg the question, ‘why they serve it at all?’ But anyway, that’s my opinion. You eat it by the handfuls, because that’s all that’s left, and you get sick."

It looks more like a fake lighting thing, because the blue on the crest isn't consistent top to bottom either.

It doesnt even remotely match the colors in the video from the tweet. Im gonna call B.S. and will buy a severely discounted turdburger with Steve Otts name on the back and eat it if im wrong.

The sabres official tweet had a little video with a teaser about the 50th sweater and the entire color scheme is pretty much the original colors from the year the team joined the league.....I think someone posted it earlier.

On one hand, hiring Krueger is a tidy piece of business. The 59-year-old ex-Oilers coach is a great communicator and deep thinker who has a completely different resume than other candidates. On the other hand, Botterill is sticking his neck out a bit by entrusting a relatively unknown commodity to clean up a mess. Buffalo hasn't come particularly close to making the postseason during Jack Eichel's career and they own the league’s longest playoff drought (eight years). Those competing forces make the Krueger hire fascinating. It seems like a helluva pickup for an organization that's been salivating for a proven leader - but asking a former chairman for a pro soccer club with little NHL experience to turn around your team's fortunes is definitely risky.

Completely agree.
But really, why not? Sabres has gone with a Stanley Cup-winning retread. Then the sought-after, successful assistant, first time head coach.

Now, an out-of-the box hire. Which is kinda what Grönberg would’ve been too.

What isn’t risky, and what the Sabres do well, is trotting out a new sweater to sell to the fans.

I like Krueger partly because he succeeded in a sport he knew nothing about. He took his leadership and team building skills, along with his general smarts and built something out of nothing, by surrounding himself with the right people.

Just curious, how do you know he knew nothing about soccer? No prior managerial experience, sure. But someone who knows nothing about the game is probably not going to interview for, and get, a job for basically a farm team on another continent.

If you were jbotts. would have you let skinner walk over 1 million per? 8x9 vs. 8 x 8

Think of the overall psyche of this sports fan base.

Sabres paid skinner for not leaving buffalo and continuing the cycle.

Sabres are missing out on season ticket sales as well.
Skins got a commission basically

Well since he started posting “tank” after I said I would have rather have saved the cap space and let Skinner walk rather then commit long term essentially hurting this years roster I felt it applied.

I cant remember where I read this, but he was hired to make the team look good to potential buyers because the family wanted to sell the team. Thats a pretty unique skill set and i believe he ended up making the team look good and they ultimately sold. Im probably strengthening your argument more than anything else.....

Summing up my thoughts/opinions on the subject.

Skinner is not elite defensively, or even good defensively when he actually has to play defense in the defensive zone. The reason he and his linemates get so many O zone starts is so he doesn't have to play defense in the traditional sense of the term, not because he's so bad it per say, but because he is an elite scorer that we want to have the puck in the o zone. When his line is controlling the puck in the o zone essentially he is paying defense because the other team doesn't have the puck to play offense. Also, o zone takeaways is a part of playing defense. It is taking who know's how many future scoring chances from the opponent. This is why offensive zone possession numbers have been a huge point of emphasis in the modern NHL.

Skinner scores goals and drives offense, that's what he does. Eichel drives possession, moves the puck with his legs and sets linemates up, that's what he does. I don't care how many assists Skinner does or doesn't have. That's not who he is and that's not what got him paid 9MM. He is elite. It would have cost a TON to replace him. Had we not replaced him we would have been far worse off. His stats say so, the "eye test" says so. Now, they just need to keep developing the youth and building around the top end talent they have.

I'm going to be evil, here.

The Toronto Maple Leafs also underperformed with John Tavares.

Strong defense corps and goaltending did. Look at their top 6 wingers and tell me why that position warrants spending $9M on one winger.

Jack Wagon, what was the alternative?

He scores and it was what the market would bear.

People are confusing 1-dimensional for 2-way forward for sure

He's Marchand-lite with his ability to get under players' skin, he's fast, he scores goals and he draws penalties. There are some dimensions.

So he's a pesky, fast, penalty drawing, goal-scoring one dimensional machine I guess
