I'm turning down $10mil X 8 years every single day of the week if I'm Marner because I am simply worth much much more than that.

5 years X $10.5 million is a fair deal on both sides. Maybe Marner gives us an extra year as a favor and goes for 6.

Take this with a grain of salt. My Chiropractor is a pretty well connected individual and knows someone close with the Marner family. (he is based in Richmond Hill big into sports medicine) He told me the one thing that IS true about all that we have heard, is that Paul Marner is way out to lunch. Its not Mathews money he is after, its McDavid money. This goes back to JR days feeling his kid was way better then McJesus.

Mitch actually is sweating to sign, he doesnt want to go anywhere, but his dad is driving the bus here. Mitch doesnt want to piss off the old man cause of all the "sacrifices" he made with money and time driving to rink etc. I get and respect that. Mitch was raised right....but at the same time dad needs to eff off, you'll be getting taken care of either way. Thats why there havent been any signed offer sheets. What GM is gonna pay him even Mathews money let alone McDavid money.

Aparently there is a huge endorsments deal worth 10 million alone for when Mitch puts pen to paper on his contract with the leafs. Still not good enough for Dad

- mel_vin

Yup.

A friend of mine has a son who grew up playing hockey with Marner.

Paul is a nut case who lives through Mitch’s hockey career. Always has.

This contract is as big a deal to Paul than it is Mitch.

We have a very good team with a good chance to win and we get the pleasure to watch them each year.

I see this makes you angry.

I find it funny you spend your days trying to make Leaf fans mad. Can you find something better to do mid August? Maybe some friends to hang out with?

I think it has to be Matthews. This is his team.
- PatC80

Jt is signed longer.
I just dont see am as captain material yet.
Could be wrong.
Who knows if Reilly signs long term.
For now...id go with JT.
Vet, smart has experience, is a leader on and pff the ice.
Perfect captain for the leafs

This is a crappy scene.

As a Wings fan, I don’t mind seeing it. That said, I have always respected the Buds and don’t get the hate other fans have for them and their fans...seems obsessive after a while.

Anyway, I like watching Marner play, but to turn down (reportedly) the amount of money he has is super greed man. I get the back and forth of: player should get theirs and owners are greedy, etc. But at the end of the day, that’s a boat ton o cash to play for your hometown team. Every 500K extra he asks for is less to go get another player to be a better overall team. It’s also been pointed out a lot, but if he gets traded to a crap market he will lose millions in off ice stuff. Might be the difference of what he’s arguing for.

Lastly, AM, JT he is not. That’s just on the Buds. I’d take a number of players (some who are/where RFA) over Marner. Everyone talks about how he pumped JT stats - in reality, JT has a career year by (roughly) 3pts. Marner jumped up 30 or so playing with JT, who has lifted a lot of mediocre players stats over his time on the Island. Seems like they both benefited from one another, but more so Marner.

Wow, this all makes sense then...Sheesh you'd think being the highest paid winger would be enough considering he was drafted 4th and not 1st like McDavid.

hope this is just a game of chicken now.

14 mil... jfc... give me 2 Nylanders any day

Soon we will see how a 6.9mil Nylander is better than a 9+ mil Marner

If the Leafs name Matthews Captain:

Toronto media: Hearing Tavares wasn't pleased with the decision and as he was set on being the next captain of the Leafs. Hearing rumors that Tavares may ask for a trade.

Based on what? Marner has led the team in scoring 2 years in a row and trending upward. He's also very good defensively.

They are in such a better position imo.

Since their franchise player is signed for 6M, no-one is saying rantanen should get 10+. Our franchise guy signed at a ridiculous 11.6 so now that's the comparable
