I’m not a so-called Benning apologist whatever dafuq that really means other than it comes from ppl hell bent on hating him.

I was never deluded that the hand he was dealt was not going to take a lot of time to turn over the roster. Sure there has been some small hivcups but nothing terrible except LE has miserably failed.

I’m on record as stating JB is now under the gun to get results. Green for that matter also. Many other teams have spun their wheels or worse for far longer. I will be critical as needed from this next season & moving forward. I do like how we are shaping up.

EP has had 1 really good season, let's tap the brakes a bit. Many highly skilled but undersized forwards don't do very well in the playoffs. Hughes has played 5 games, and yes he is dynamic. Dominant is a different word though.

So pump the breaks on EP but bank on the 2020 prospects?

I dont remember being as excited for a season to start as I am right now. I'm super excited to see how camp plays out and to see some pairings and line combos

Let’s hear some examples of trades won by other GM’s. Also GM’s that failed or spent more. Then rate Benning amongst his peers.
- Nighthawk

1st one that come to mind is Rask for Nino
Edit: curious to see how the Montour trade works out

It’s just the glee club hyping it up after the Miller trade to make JB look bad. Some of these same dudes make fun of people who plug in prospects into future lineups yet they have no problems with calling a bunch of 17 year olds future stars.

Hypocrisy and sadism.

- Nucker101

Ppl always looking to the future & not living & seeing the present either have the utmost patience or never want to see results. Sorry but i cannot live in the middle it’s not in my nature. I also am in no rush but the time is upon us to back this team. Most of the pain & suffering is over & it is time to make noise & enjoy it.

I still hate that 4th round pick he gave up for DP.

Hall for Larsson.

Funny enough both GM's that completely lost those trades have now been FIRED!

Yes you are right to not be overly optimistic. I am not trying to come off that way but EP & Hughes are now surrounded by much better talent & size & real NHLers. The depth added has made us bigger & those 2 are about the only undersized players you refer to.

The picks for castoffs deals along with LE are the 2 most frustrating things by far. At least now he’s traded for a proven young player and his contract negotiation skills seem better too. He’s definitely a much better GM today than he was 5 years ago.

I don't think this is entirely fair. We have all watched a GM like Gillis sell the farm and futures for that one shot to bring this franchise the cup. He did a hell if a job in 2011, but it's safe to say that in the years leading up to 2011, we really mortgaged the future. While the team at some point needs to be competitive, and I personally think today they are ready, I dont blame people for thinking that giving up draft picks, or giving up on prospects is the wrong way to go. That cut of losing the cup and having one of the worst prospect cupboards in the league wasnt that long ago.

At least we can put a name to EP vs the unknown 1st we traded. Lol

As for undersized players finding the PO’s a whole other challenge I didn’t see the Flames or TB or Leafs surround their stars with what it takes for success. I don’t believe it’s all about teams being big & physical but those teams were hardly close to being close. The PO grind needs many types of players & facets in the roster to get it done. Goalie no doubt or no hope. All too often most stars can be shut diwn or controlled but the unsung heroes on the 3rd & 4th lines can determine if a team can move on all so often. The stars over 4 series will make their impact as well as drawing all the attention. Nobody saw ROR as a sexy pick to lead St Louis. In our cup runs it was the warriors who got us there & without them we were not finalists or even close.

What exactly is strong about the 2020 draft?

Nobody has yet claimed it to be deeper.
There is no stud D like Dahlin or Byram.
Too much hype is clouding ppl’s judgement let alone where we might draft at. As usual some ppl rather jump to worrying 1st.

- Nighthawk

Smh. Guessing anyone who thinks 2020 is being overhyped hasn’t bothered watching tape yet.

He certainly has improved, I would say also.

I think the first few years he went about doing the ugly stuff like making those trades and signing some free agents that now a days he wouldn't have.

Talked about filling that age gap. Bringing in players to help the younger ones. Those aren't pretty things because as we all know draft picks are shiny new toys that are going to become NHL superstars... everyone of them.

Draft and develop takes a long time and as I said since 2015 only 2 players have outscored Sven and his 100 points.

Yet some still believe that you can do a full rebuild in less time than JB has been a GM for.

😂😂

Like anyone else it can be hard to see the trees for the forest but we are getting better each year. Maybe not as much as we like but it’s happening. Last year alone we had fun watching our boys. It can only get better with the additions & the kids & prospects 1yr older.

Size is a reasonable concern to an extent, but the mentality matters much more. I don't see EP as a dude who backs down or gets scared despite being pretty thin for a NHL'er. Same with Hughes, these dudes have some swagger and are gamers. And a pack mentality will make every player feel 1 foot taller. The culture has to change starting from development camps, the AHL, and then by the time the homegrown talent reaches the NHL level, the pack mentality will just be second nature. That's what teams like the Bruins and Capitals preach. The entire organization has to be on the same page if they want to establish it.

Good example 👍

Overall JB started off slowly but he’s gained some momentum in recent years. Is he doing great? No but we can see where it leads & that’s where i rather scrutinize the big picture & not dwell so much on the past.

I love how the Toronto media tries to help the Leafs bring down the asking price of their restricted free agents: https://www.sportsnet.ca/...restimating-market-value/

Pump the brakes on him being dominant. The point is, we lack these dominant types and trade away our best capital for acquiring them for secondary players.

You claim Benning never won a trade.
Turned your narrative into lost every trade.
Difficult to understand or don’t like this game?

I still have no idea what you’re getting at. What does any of this have to do with other people being critical of him?
