Ek, is it possible that the Bruins and McAvoy have already agreed to a bridge deal, before the bad blood gets any worse, but they are waiting to announce it until Friday, which serves two purposes:

1) Friday's are apparently when stuff goes down.
2) By delaying a few more days the bad blood between OTHER RFAs and their teams gets even worse, possibly leading to permanent league-altering consequences.

I don't necessarily disagree, but do you think it is better to pay now for stuff that hasn't happened yet and may never happen? The Leafs will have 4 players in double digits, probably 5 when Rielly gets paid in a couple years. So far, they haven't shown they can win a series, nevermind a cup.

Sure, some older players are washed up and overpaid. And some younger players will become superstars and deserve to get paid like it.

But it seems like any decent young player (under team control) wants 8+ million.

it's been a trend that's been growing since the lockout, understandably so , players and agents are figuring out they need to make their money while they can still stake and be relevant, before they become thirty year olds looking for jobs in nhl.
