Buffalo has absolutely nothing to offer Philadelphia for Couturier. |

Since when is Risto a "winner" ? Or even a leader for that matter ? Yes he takes care his body and works out during off season and he does add a physical presence on ice. However, just like with EK I've yet to see one photo of Risto with teammates between games. He vanishes after practice or games and does not hang out with teammates. And of course he has a tendency to make bone head mistakes at the wrong time causing turnovers that result in goals. |

Oh boy. Risto for coots? That’s not Ever gonna happen.
I can see Risto for RNH or Rakell but either of those players it’s gonna have to be Risto ++

Sabres already got a veritable treasure trove of assets for Evander Kane. So they could afford to fall short of the 5 premium assets for ROR. |

No doubt I would love to see Risto in a PHI Jersey however for Couturier is ridiculous. Couturier is a younger Patrice Bergeron. You dont trade a guy like that. Flyers signed Hayes to fill a whole at Center so why would they trade away their #1 C especially for a Dman when the team is currently carrying 8.
The only way I see Risto going to Philly is for one of our Young Dman and by that it means Myers, Morin or Ghost. I cant see the Flyers open to dealing Provorov or Sanheim and Buffalo would not want Niskanen, Braun or Hagg |

Risto is an analytics nightmare. Five or six years ago, he may have commanded a decent return. Today, it’s doubtful they get much more than a mid level pick and B or C level prospect |

Risto for Rakell???? You drunk ???
A yearly 30 goal scorer who had 18 on the worst offensive team in the league while shooting well below his historical average and Who is 26 and on a insanely team friendly contract...
You get Carter Rowney for Risto and like it. |

I think Buffalo will be looking for a “hockey trade” for a top 6 C or top 6 RW (preferably right shot).
Right now they have a very crowded blue line. They have Risto, Montour, Miller, Bogosian and Jokiharju on the right side. Dahlin, McCabe, Pilut, Scandella, Hunwick on the left. Plus they have a pretty deep pipeline at D. They have a couple guys knocking on the door in the AHL and a few more coming up shortly behind them (within the next couple years). Botterill has really focused on drafting defenseman since he got here.
Where buffalo has a HUGE hole right now is at #2 C and top 6 right wing and everything I’ve read has said that’s what they’re looking for. I think 2C is probably the preference, but RW is a big need too. I also think they would consider any good young top 6 player because they need top 6 guys. It has been said that they want someone who still fits the rebuild though, and has some team control left. Risto is only 24 and has 3yrs left on his deal.
And rumors are that he would actually prefer to add to Risto to get a better player in return vs. trading Risto for a lesser player or package that includes a prospect/pick.
I’m not really sure where there’s a match (around the NHL) though. I can’t really think of a good target offhand. Couturier would be unreal. That’s a dream scenario, and buffalo would obviously add but like you said Philly would never trade him. Why would they? He’s an amazing player on an amazing deal. |

He doesn’t really fit the Sabres rebuild timeline. He’s going to be 30 this season.
From what Jason Botterill has said and from what’s been reported, I think the Sabres are hoping to find someone closer to Ristolainen’s age that fits with the team long term.
Now, if you wanted to talk about something around Rakell for Risto (and maybe a +) I’m all ears! lol
I know Rakell’s not going to happen (I can’t imagine Anaheim trading him), but I think that’s more in line with what buffalo is looking for in return. 25/26 or younger, good right shot top 6 player with some term left. If they can’t find a trade like that out there, I think they are fine just keeping Ristolainen. I don’t really think they want to trade him anyway (from what I’ve read/heard they will only trade him if the offer is right). It sounds like Risto asked the team to explore his trade options but I don’t think Botterill is very anxious to trade him. As of now he is still our best right shot defenseman and he plays the most minutes on the team. And I don’t think Botterill wants to see another ROR situation - where a good player is shipped out, put in a much better position to succeed by the new team and then goes on to thrive, making botterill look stupid for trading him.
Buffalo finally has enough defensive depth to actually be the ones to put Risto in a better position to succeed and I think ideally they’d like to see what that looks like. But if another team values him highly enough to offer up something valuable that fills a bigger area of need in Buffalo and still fits their rebuild timeline, they have the depth to make the move now (and five Risto the fresh start he seems to want, but that’s secondary IMO). |

Well Garth said.... and look I don't know how plugged in Garth is but that Risto is now 3rd or even 4th RHD in the lineup - and that Risto is not down with that at all.
