Sounds about right. Dubas throws money around signing max deals. Imagine if the geek ran any other team instead of one with the purse strings of the Leafs.

Who's getting max deals?

Trade a 21 year old with 94 points because he hasnt led the team anywhere? Yes I bet all the gambles and lesser talents you get back in a trade will be the team over the top.

Trade Marner for Panarin straight up. The only problem is the morons on the Ranger Thread would want a first round pick too!!!

How dare he pay good players alot of money when he can pay average players less money!
- systemtool

What has he accomplished with his purse?

I don’t see any bargains. Traded his only good contract away out of necessity for cap space. Most likely play with less than a 23 roster. Yes i know the Marlies are conveniently located. Caved on Nylander. Marner won’t take a precedent setting discount to appease the fans nor should he. Yes the cap will rise but so will contract demands. Next year where will the money for D come from?

All in all the Leafs have great players & a totally fun team to watch but it’s results in the end that matter. That’s a hurdle still to be seen accomplished til a better rounded roster in place.

Hes been on the job 2 years and the majority of his better players are either not yet in their primes or have come recently through trades. It's way too early to judge Dubas. He didnt cave on Nylander. But sure. Sometimes when people express themselves when angry, reality and logical thinking take a backseat.

The truth is, Babcock is responsible for the team not making strides in the playoffs at this point. Not Dubas. Not yet.

Yes it’s Babcock who hasn’t done enough yet. I’m not a fan of him overrated tbh.

Dubas hasn’t done that much yet but it’s early yes. Signing JT was a coup but it was costly & big ramifications on the cap. Allocating so much towards F’s is the nature of the beast considering the talent but again it’s not left enough for D.

I liked the signings of Johnsson and Kapanen. With them having bigger roles this year I think those will turn out to be solid signings. The Leafs D can use a little improvement, but I dont think a top 3 of Barrie Rielly and Muzzin is as bad as people think the D is.

As for JT. Paying stars is rarely the problem. It's when you have contracts like Loui Ericsson and Milan Lucic (examples) on the books that you have a messy cap situation. Or even Marleau, who cost the Leafs a first round pick to get rid of, but that wasnt a Dubas signing.

While I might be missing a player somewhere, I have a hard time finding a player who isnt a star or with high end potential, making big money. Nylander could be one if he doesnt bounce back.

The D this year for a full season is better than last year. Next year is the problem.

Kapanen & Johnsson were solid signings & good they were willing to sign bridge deals. After that nothing special was achieved.

Paying the stars is never a problem if it brings success. JT is not Kawhi so the jury is still out.

LE on the books is liveable but the Luongo recapture is another story. The 3/3m cap drag will hurt. We are not the Oilers who have made a mess of everything for a long time. Our prospect pool is very healthy.

Most of you guys sounds like petty kids. Marner, his agent and the rest of the nhlpa need him to get as much as he can. Because what he gets the rest will follow in lesser amounts. He sets the amount they can get. The guy deserves what he will be getting paid, he played hard for it and deserves to get what he earned. He’s one of the top 3 guys bringing in the fans to the organization making somewhere in the billion range. I’d rather it go to him then the billionaires.

The owners are already spending hand over fist. Hell they're paying guys millions not to play for the team. The issue here is the cap, not who is making more money. Leafs have been drawing fans and money in before marner and theyll continue to do so without marner. This isnt about that.

So you think this has to do with the ownership of the Leafs being cheap?

he's gotta make a living somehow. can't keep paying out of pocket to follow the leafs around without getting paid and claiming all those expenses as work related tax write offs in court forever.
