Injuries will create openings for guys trying to make the big club. It’s the “good look” that I have issues with. Green doesn’t always have the patience to let the rookies play meaningful minutes.

What are “meaningful minutes”? Aren’t all 60 (65) minutes in a game meaningful? If not we wouldn’t talk so much about playing the full 60...

When Kesler made it to the NHL it was as a 4th line, PK guy. He proved he deserved to stay, and gained experience, trust and more minutes. Nothing wrong with cutting your teeth on the 4th line.

I am not a fan of JB as a symbol of the Canucks but I am a fan of the overall group of them. Jim looks like a dummy but obviously he is not. He speaks slow and funny but he is still a smart hockey man.

I think it is a really dumb move to fire someone that making progress. You fire someone when they plateau or free fall .

I still remember loud and clear the chants of the arena "Fire Gillis" even though he was a slick smooth talkin snake oil salesman .

I would much rather see Jim get a contract extension now, than have him dangle all season with a make the playoffs or you’re fired situation. If you are going to fire someone then do it now and move on. If you have faith in them then give them the security they need to do the job well.

I am in the middle with JB. I don't think he is an idiot. He is definitely no genius. When you average all the good and all the bad its pretty close. Does the good cancel out the bad or vice versa? He has been in the game a long time in many different roles. I would take his experience over mine any day. You can't replace experience. I think this is something the younger generations don't get.

I agree if one or two players are trying to prove themselves starting on the fourth line. When it is half your roster trying to prove themselves then it is a little rougher on the coach.

Yeah I fully agree. He was dealt a crap hand and it is taking a while. I think the team is turning the corner(cliche) . I think with some of the toughness and skill this team could surprise . I still think we are three years away from being a league threat.

I think when Petey and Hughes hit around 25 years old we will be a big threat then.

I disagree a GM's contract/negotiations are much different than a players going into free agency. Its make or break time. In a position like that he knows the pressures It's what he signed on for. At his level it's not about faith its about getting a job done. If things go bad to start the season we could end up with all new management and coaching by Christmas.

And if things are similar to last year, he might do something short sighted, to save his job today. I’m in it for the long term success, so making the playoffs this coming season isn’t the most important thing for me. If the team is .500 and just outside the playoffs do you want him acquiring depth to try and make the playoffs?

I don't think Bo is the next captain. Now that my friend is how you stir the pot.

I really don't GAF if he is or not. I'd be more happy to see JB somehow manage to acquire some assets for once.

I think Podkolzin is going to be a beast . I already have him slotted in top 6 in two years. We definitely got a top player in this years draft.

Wasn't happy with the pick at first, but now that I've seen some of the things he can bring, i'm good now.

Pod slide way down the draft, it's going to be interesting if all the hype about the kid turns out. Teams passed because he was going to the KHL or that he's Russian? Skating? OR???

It's almost mid-August, so this is a great time to dig a little deeper into the details of this year's Canucks' draft class.

Up first, fresh off his appearance at the Sochi Hockey Open—Vasily Podkolzin:

This is a man not a boy. This kid can play right now.
