Good player. Not what they hoped he would be when he was drafted, but still a good player.

While Hanifin may never be (quite) as dynamic as Hamilton offensively, he is as good if not better defensively. And cheaper for now. Win on that trade. It's too bad we had to give up Fox as well, but as Carolina found out, he was only going to sign where HE wanted. Ferland now gone for nothing. Flames have Hanifin and Lindholm under very reasonable contracts for many years... this trade has really helped Calgary long-term.

Still think it was a good trade for both teams. A real hockey trade for a change. Hamilton had a real good playoff & helped the Canes along pretty good. They already had a good crop of young D, so a good fit.

Dougie Hamilton Point total first 4 seasons in the NHL 126
Hanifin Point total first 4 seasons 116

Granted Hamilton played less games to get to that point but if I'm not mistaken Hamilton was 20 when he played his first game in the NHL. Noah was 19 when he made his first start.

Overall I agree Hamilton appears to have the hire trajectory but its still very early to be comparing Noah to Hamilton this early on. Both extremely good defenseman at their age and time spent in the NHL.

Hamilton's 126 points were across only 260 games, vs 116 in 319 games for Hanifin.

That's .485 points per game vs .364.

Hamilton also scored as many goals last year as Hanifin scored across all three of his years in Carolina.

I like Noah, he's solid, but the comparison is silly. The two are not on the same level.

And they both broke into the NHL at 19.

Offensively Dougie has the edge, defensively, I think the nod would go to Hanifin. Both teams got what they wanted, and in a league which presently values offense from the backend, hard to argue Carolina didn't get the more valuable defender (perhaps not the better).

Still like the deal for both teams today, don't think Lindholm would have necessarily broken out offensively in Carolina the way he did with Johnny and Mony, and don't think Dougie was a long term fit here. Had the Canes moved Faulk the way they planned to last year, might have provided more forward depth, but can't argue with the season/playoff run that they had either.

Was a little hesitant about this trade at the time, but after 1 year it looks to have played out well for us. I think Hamilton still has the upper hand in offensively, but Noah and Elias fit like peas in a pod with the Flames.
