Gorton showed the NHL and the NHL fanbase how to properly execute a rebuild

Go scorched earth, Free up cap, Draft high and draft often in the top 3 rounds, and sign premium Free Agents

It was 2 seasons ago that he formally announced the rebuild. Already on the upswing

You forgot, win the lottery when there are potential superstars in the top 2 spots, a key element in any rebuild. Ask the Pens

Definitely rangers. Bolts have some great players. But core is aging. Defense is horrible and coach was completely lost vs Columbus. Didn’t have an answer or a thought

Tampa allowed 222 goals against last season. Rangers let up 272.

They got punked in the playoffs and it's fine to call out their coaching but the Rangers need a lot of guys to pan out and they have to deal with a worse cap situation.

It has been a remarkably high stake high speed rebuild for the Rangers and they are definitely run better then in a long time but how well it all works out remains to be seen.

I’m a Rangers fan and I’m very excited for the future - but it hasn’t been all wine and roses for the rebuild though. I still have no idea why Shattenkirk was bought out and not Marc Staal. Makes zero sense to me, unless there were things going on that we didn’t know about.

And our cap situation next year is going to be extremely tricky with the dead space cap hits. It’s going to take some work to make it all work out - and the dreams of a Kreider extension are up in flames. Although I think that the writing has been on the wall there for a little while now.

incredibly stupid question - bottom 5 team (last year or top reg season team since the Habs Glorieux.

Yes, the rags are looking decent going forward but the Bolts are great right now.

Great > Decent.

Rangers tend to throw a lot of money out at FA's in hopes they will become relavent quick, should have given the rebuild another year.....can't believe they have cap issues already.

This is insanely stupid. It doesn’t matter who they draft. It doesn’t matter who they buy in free agency. The Rangers are an awful franchise and as long as that village idiot owns the team they will be unsuccessful. And best case scenario for the Rangers would be they turn out half as good as this Tampa Bay team was in the regular season last year.

Easy Tampa Bay that organization is ready to win now and ALSO has great depth of prospects might even be better on the young player than the Rangers. TB will be good for many years to come plus their goalie is better and much younger. Ranger could be good but I am not sure they can surpass TB in the future even.

Agreed. This isn't remotely close. The Rangers will never rebuild. The simply can't help themselves when it comes to high priced gambles. Maybe they'll all work out this time, but when you're playing on the wrong side of the aging curve, it's unlikely.

You want to say Tampa has a better future, fine, I won't argue with ya, but...........

Where have you been the past few years? NYR has pretty much done exactly what needs to be done to rebuild a team. Had a ton 1st round picks over past few years . Made great trades for future, rebuilt there prospect pool into top ten in league, overhauled there AHL team, brought in JD, and signed some young FAs .

I love how people act like it's 2001 and NYR can just sign whoever they want. Not sure if you know but there's a cap nowadays. Catch-up on current events little buddy

I'd rather have sure things than prospects. The Rangers might be good. The rangers might produce young star players.

The bolts are good. The bolts have several star players, some still young like Kucherov and Point.

If you're asking which team I'd rather take to the ice with to win now, it's Tampa of course. If you're asking which team I'd rather GM, it's Tampa, because they've got some real challenges coming to try to keep the band together under the cap. The Rangers are entering a period now where they get to/have to sit back for a bit and assess what they have in their young players to know which roles are filled long term and which need addressing. They kind of can't make any substantial moves for awhile for that reason. So running them would be boring for the next year or two. Tampa would be the real test of a GM's skills. No surprise Yzerman chickened out.

My point is, that you can be a young team with boatloads of prospects like the Rangers, in a few years when or if you decide to sell off Kucherov stamkos hedman etc who will haul bigger returns than the good but not great players the rangers traded.

Be tampa now and have what the rangers have later. The chances of the Rangers becoming what the bolts are now is slim. The odds of tampa being able to acquire solid assets in a few years if this doesnt pan out, are high.

So true. NYR was already Tampa, for a few years between 2011-2015.

They gonna be better in a few years time
