The irony that Shattenkirk blocked a trade to Edmonton that would’ve landed Hall in St. Louis.

I am really surprised that the Rangers couldn't just eat a couple mil and trade him, instead of buying him out. A second pair RHD with offensive pedigree at 5 mil per for 2 years should have been at least a little marketable. Especially considering what guys like Myers got in FA. Maybe he forced the buyout by refusing to waive a NTC?

Would be quite happy with a Shattenkirk replacing Russell, but just picking him up and keeping Russell

Next summer a team looking to hit the cap floor (Ottawa) would be more than happy to take Kris Russel at a 4 million dollar cap hit (2.5 million in actual salary or 1.5 million after signing bonus has been paid).
