I think a more realistic concern is where we'd find the money to resign him in 2 years if it goes well.

Low risk, High reward deal...good offseason for you guys...and if they decide they can't pay him because he is lights out good and wants breadman money you will probably significantly improve the draft picks you traded away...

It's really the move we've been waiting for all off season (other then drafting Hughes).

This team has needed a top 6 winger forever and while it would be great if someone like Boqvist, Bastian, McLeod or Seney develops into that guy we needed someone legit. Goose isn't exactly that player as he's never played in the NHL; but he's such a good *prospect* it is a reasonable solution.

Someone else said: Gusev could be Panarin, or could be Shipachev, or somewhere in between. Seem reasonable.

Size and toughness may be an issue with this team, but they are going to fast and skilled.

We won't have to feel like we are bringing a knife to a gunfight every night. That's for sure. Because I don't think anyone's going to out skate us. I have no guesses as to what our record will be but I feel like we should be very competitive every night.

Being able to play guys like Coleman, Wood and Zacha on a lower line and having some real depth will be so fun to watch.

I was watching videos of this guy and this is as big as getting Jack. This guy is insane and I can't believe we got him. He is top line material.

I guess that whole "no talented people want to go to Jersey" is just about over.

I despise the Devils, but they’ve certainly had the kind of great offseason which should show Hall that they are serious about contending sooner than later, and he should resign a long term deal.

He kinda does plays like Panarin from what I've seen. He uses the whole ice (so does Jack, imagine the havoc they can cause just from their skating)

Im in disbelief.

Thats a problem I look forward to. The risk is minimal on this deal. After 2 seasons, Mojo ultimately left us with a deficit of just a 3rd rd pick when all was said and done. Gusev's value will only go up from here.

Greene, Zajac, Cory maybe Palms, Simmonds will all be gone. We'll afford him.

Size and physicality is not an issue with this club. Subban, Hayden, Wood, Coleman, Simmonds is more than enough beef in the lineup. Wpg, Bos, Stl, and Nsh are some of a few teams that are more physical, but the NHL is shifting hard towards speed and skill guys. The league isn't half as tough as it used to be, which is a direction Shero has recognized nicely.

Hyden, Wood, Coleman and Simmonds certainly add some grit but none of the top 6 guys are big or tough. I wouldn't even call any of them power forwards although I don't know what to consider Hall.

Regular season I think we are set up very nicely. Playoff hockey seems like a different animal. But we can worry about that later. I'm not complaining. I'm very excited by this team. Just saying I hope we don't get pushed around.

P.K will also be off the books. However, Hughes, Smith, and Boqvist will all be entering the last year of the ELC and need new deals. Smith and especially Hughes won't come cheap. Nico and Bratt will also already have been paid. Blackwood, will either have been paid or ending a bridge deal and due real money. Then there's Hall and how much he may have taken off the cap. It's a bit tenuous since the abundance of cap space isn't really that huge considering all this. But I still think Ray can and will figure something out if the Goose is really a star.

right, the NHL is shifting towards skill and speed, while the Cup Finals were decided by 2 of the more physical teams and won by maybe the most physical team.

Like others have said, I think we'll be fine in the regular season. If we make the playoffs, matching lines could be important. We do have some stronger players, so hopefully they can "protect" our smaller skilled guys (would be nice to have more combos of the 2, but that's just my crazy talk cuz who needs players that are both strong AND skilled?). The refs/league should continue to protect the smaller skill players. This certainly isn't the 90s anymore.

Hope this Gusev can transition to the NHL. He's 27 and has been great with production.. I wonder why he wasn't picked up last offseason, or the year before, or the year before that. . and why he didn't see ice with Vegas when they needed scoring the most. Now he'll at least have preseason and camp, and I agree.. 45pts would be a win. Trying to have realistic expectations. we shall see.

I could be wrong but I thought players under KHL contracts cant sign with NHL. They have to wait until their KHL contract expires.

Ray has been very shrewd so I'm optimistic he can manage the cap moving forward. It really is a part a lot of GM's struggle with. Rangers made great moves in getting Trouba and Panarin but now they are either buying guys out or trading someone valuable away. It may not really hurt them but it does handcuff them a bit.

Congrats Devils on this amazing signing. Please pass this on the the Meltzer Flyers board who for the most part are laughing at the Devils. They are so wrong! If you youtube Gusev you will see that he is an elite talent and the best player in Russia. He will not be a V. Shipashev bust. He will be more like Panarin and I will bet your house on it, lol. I can not wait to see the Devil pp in action with this dude's playmaking skill.
