Just my opinion, but hope Ray is looking at something that fits the age horizon and can score. Fingers crossed.

I never understood teams going on any hard buy mode, or "pushing their chips on the table". The only time I've really seen this strategy work is with the Canes Cup winning team... and they went on to miss the playoffs for like ten straight years.

That's what made him pay a 2nd rounder for two months of Grabner last year.

To be fair, he had to show something to the veterans that they were going to push for a playoff spot. Sometimes trades like this is a good way to build morale. Nobody off the current roster and they were going to get some help in a position they were weak in. Well....at least it was the thought that counted.

the way forward for NJ is so contingent on what happens with Hall

If it turns into a Panarin/Tavares situation that's harsh

Doing a Duchene type of trade could bring in some assets fitting the age window of the new core

That could (should?) be Shero's next big move

Perfect offseason for devils. Lots of decent pieces should be available for relatively cheap from teams that need to get under the cap or need to sign big rfas. Hey! Want rust Or bjugstad? Low low price of a b prospect or a halfway decent pick.

Our biggest problem is goaltending. I wish Shero would pry away a solid tendy from another team and give Blackwood more time as a 1B goalie. I have ZERO faith in Cory at this point.

With a decent team in front of him, Cory played fine at the worlds. No big worry for me.

I feel if he's 100% healthy he'll be fine or at least decent. With Blackwood coming on I feel he needs plenty of playing time himself so I don't want to jam up the goalie situation until we know about Blackwood for sure.

You need to more realistic. Clearly Bastian or Hyden should be on the 4th line RW, not McLeod or Anderson.

Just saying.

Deal Hall someplace where he will be happy and we will only see him twice a year.

Vancouver? For Quinn Hughes +
Anaheim/ A big contract and a young defenseman

Don't worry about winning deal as much as not losing value longterm.

Hall 5years and $50 million is not a sound move.

I can live with the second move, but not the first. Gusev is far from a safe bet and while he may be good, realistically, how much higher is his ceiling than Bratt at this point? I wouldn't do it.

Have you seen Toronto cap situation?...How are they putting 11 million more on their cap then have to extend Hall for another 6 million a year?

Um......Hall will be no different than Marner in terms of Cap. So I don't see the difference other than they would have Vats and Hall this season at a cap hit of just 5.75M. Obviously this deal will not happen, as Hall could simply walk away after this season.

I am getting that feeling Hall will be traded soon...It certainly looks like he wants to taste free agency which clearly forces Shero to deal him!

I’m just a little confused about Hall wanting to test free agency there won’t be many teams that are contenders that will be able to afford the contract he will demand so IMO the safest bet for him would be to sign with the devils and ride it out and hope for the best even if it’s years down the road when he isn’t playing top line minutes

You are right in that every contender is a little cap-crunched, however, what is to keep a team like Tampa from trading Stammers for 3 1st rounders, and trading Palat for something, to free up the cap space? Tampa would remain equally as dangerous, but with a stockpile of potential draft talent on the cheap. Not likely to happen, but possible that a team has been in contact with Hall and has a potential plan set in place. I say this every time, but I trust Shero and think he makes the best moves in the league. If Hall's extension is not progressing, Shero will take action.

Trust me, I am glad we have Shero! I am an armchair GM, happily. Gusev option would be a bit of a risk, but Marner would answer our RW needs long term, and is entering his prime at just 22 years old, whereas Hall should have another 3 years or so of being elite. Plus, Marner has already topped Halls most productive season, and makes every player on his team dangerous.

Quinn + is interesting.

I'd prefer to target a winger, as scoring is our biggest issue. Hughes looks great but remains unproven at the NHL stage. I would like to see how Smith plays before adding another D. Boeser would be an interesting piece in a trade tho.....

You know who'd be great with Jack, Mogilny. I miss that guy so much.
