Neal Pionk is garbage and the Jets are idiots to have accepted him in a trade.
They are bigger idiots to sign him for that much money.
It's sad we will be held to task due for their stupidity.
That said I'm not against Will Butcher getting some decent money.
At least he earned it. |

I am all for Butcher getting a 6 year deal worth between 4-5 million per year. I think it’s a good contract for both sides and there’s room for him to get only better. |

The Pionk deal is unfortunate, because I think a 2 yr 2.5m bridge deal would have been the best outcome for the Devils. Given that signing, I agree that it may just be better to lock him up long term. But he should not be getting anything in the neighborhood of what they gave Severson. Giving him a 5th year could help to keep the AAV down, something like 5 yrs at 3.3m would be ideal. |

On a quick side note, of the 27 players to go to arbitration over the past 10 years, 13 have left there organizations within one year, 16 out of 27 within 2 years, and 21 out of 27 where gone after three years. I'm not saying this as a fact that butcher will leave, just as an observation, that maybe letting things go to arbitration hurts the relationship between the player and the club ? |

I feel the same. That should span his "prime" years, and the kid chose to come help out the club and their depleted D-roster (at the time). He knew it would get him a chance at top 4 minutes, and a potential pay day. Realistically, he would be the 4th D on most teams, so 4-5M AAV is pretty standard. Knowing that we have Pk, Smith, Severson, and hopefully Butch for a minimum of 3 years would be great peace of mind. And they would only total about 18.5M which is a bargain for what may be our top 4 going forward. |

Probably won’t make it there. As you can see from your stat, only 27 players over a 10 year span actually made it all the way to arbitration. |

Arbitration is about getting a deal done quicker. There is a deadline. If player wants to sign with team and team wants there is no issue.
Nothing about arbitration is bad, except when the team says bad things about the player to justify a low pay. I dont see Shero ever doing that as he likes the players on the team. |

Agreed. How can you NOT damage the relationship when the employer formally makes the argument, "you're not as valuable as you think you."
Kudos for digging up those numbers. |

Not sure if he's saying it to pump up the fanbase or anything to get excited about/expect to happen but Josh Harris had this to say at the PK conference today:

I'm sure Shero is doing what he does best. Whatever trade he sees fit will likely be a win. Still hoping we package Vats and a "prospect" such as Mcleod or Zacha in a deal that fetches a true 1/2 RW. Still open to Gardiner if he is available for 3 years or less. |

encouraging conference. nice to have the live feed. It's hard not to like PK as a person. Hope he's able to maintain the positive energy through the season. |

Im calling it, Laine or Marner...
This is the transformational offseason to put us on another trajectory. If you have the assets to get a game breaker, do it. |

I don't really think we have the assets to get one of those players though... |

Of course we do.. Remember Kovy? We sold them a bag of pucks. If these players (laine more likely) doesnt want to resign, they need to get whatever they can. 2 1sts, prospect and roster player. Tor would love Vats.
Edit: which could also explain the carrick signing. Someone is getting traded. |
