I personally wanted Mathew barzal, but imagine if nj picked mikko rantanen (admittedly I didn't want him)??great pick by Colorado in hindsight..however I don't think pavel zacha was such big reach as most of the scouts believed he was a top 10 pick (I sure didnt) I believe he was #6 on McKenzie list so maybe nj went with that...

if we picked Rantanen we may not have landed Hischier OR Hughes. .. but we'd have Rantanen and I'm sure would've addressed center by other means. But having Hischier and Hughes is pretty nice to move forward with, hopefully.

This is the trade if anything. For all the disappointment we have in Zacha, he is an NHLer. The same cannot surely be said for Puljujarvi

I doubt Hayden is much more then a Gabriel upgrade.

Agreed a lot of people don't realize that he was the one that built up that Brandon Wheat Kings team, and made Nolan Patrick look better than what he was, as John Q had most of the defensive zone starts, and was the one going up against the other teams best lines.

1-way deal. We can only have so many 7th dmen on the active roster. interesting.

Subban, Vatanen, Severson, Greene, Carrick, Mueller, Smith, and Butcher still.

I count 8. Carrick is on a 2-way deal. Very interesting, especially since Carrick is better than Mueller, IMO.

Be surprised if Smith starts right away. NJ loves to give prospects time, usually. Someone might get moved. My hope is Mueller. Makes his recent 1-way deal annoying but can always be moved for a pick to be depth somewhere else. Would love to see Greene be the 7-th Dman but we know that’s not gonna happen.
