Peter Tessier: Summer of Chevy is very relaxing The summer of Chevy may have more to do with stuff away from contracts than the contracts themselves.

I have spoken with one of the parties alleged to be involved.

...I don't think that meets the definition of naming a source.

For the last 3-4 months, I have been saying that the problem in the room is Laine.
No team or no company can have a slacker like that and not have some morale issues.

maybe Paul Maurice just isn't that good of a coach? Or at least, he is not the right coach to get the Jets to where they want to be.

It doesn't. Why rant about people needing to prove it if they are going to say something, then doing exactly what you have a problem with. "My sources say..."

More importantly, players are going to give the party line. Even players who want out know their behavior right now is an audition for future GM's they might sign a contract with, and GM's want all issues kept private. That's why when their are issues, it comes from anonymous "sources." Player agent telling the media something privately puts pressure on the team without the player getting the backlash of publicly commenting.

He's a solid coach in short bursts, but if the same core group is around with him for too long, it gets pretty old.

I say alleged because that’s what it was. The party is the young lady.

2019/20 is another 'prove it' or 'move along' year for Maurice. My expectation is that they make the playoffs and are a threat to whoever they meet. More players above career advancing than regressing. Ultimately they need to put up points.

We hear the rumour and the rational for why this could be significant, however, it is still almost entirely unsubstantiated that Laine is at the core of the problem. This is mostly conjecture.

He carried two guys wearing letters for the last 20 games of the season, and was the hardest working guy in the playoffs

Conjecture, yes, but think about how you would feel if a co-worker or teammate was not putting forth an effort that you feel is acceptable, yet, that person gets coddled by management. To add insult to injury, said person is in line for a massive raise and will likely make more than you.

He’s been sub-par for a few seasons now. Until the locker room fell apart later on last year, Maurice and co. represented 100% of the Jets issues

MARCH - 4 games, 0 points
FEB - 15 games, 8 points
Last 19 games of 2018-19 = 8 points, (1 G, 7 A)

Oh yeah....he is a generational goal scorer.

No. It’s not. He was visibly the first guy in on the rush, and the first guy on the back check when he was with 55 and 26

Pete, I am absolutely not advocating for the sharing of rumours surrounding girlfriends and such at all but to say “grow up Winnipeg”. Common, get real, I’ve lived in Toronto and Vancouver and have also spent significant time in Montreal. This type of gossip is not unique to us and I can actually say we are far less than other markets for this type of crap.

Slacker? Did you see 55 back check down the stretch? Neither did I

Patti has been a slacker for quite some time, not just the backstretch.

What I find most funny is you can’t find one person to say Laine had a good year and yet he still scored 30 goals at age 20.
30 goals!! And we look at hat like it’s a bad thing in here. That’s funny and sad.
