True.
I'm pretty calm, though.
Here's the thing, some of us here get it. And, some just don't.
Several teams in the league would kill to have the problems NYR have right now. - Tonybere
Yeah pretty much this. I actually can accept the criticism about the team and cap issues. The thing is though, even if somehow we had to not sign any of the RFAs (which would never happen), you'd still have an impressive core to build around. |

You will notice that I carefully arranged the order of colours.
I am FAR too Canadian to make that kind of change. |

As bad as Shattenkirks been, you can’t tell me at 3.3 million (us retaining 50%) a team wouldn’t be willing to take a chance on him for a mid round pick. As a 3rd pair dman at 3.3 million he’s better than most. Smith might be a little harder to trade, but if we bury him in the minors we get 1 million. Trade Nam and that’s 4 million. That’s 8.3 million to sign Buch/ADA/Lemieux. I wouldn’t be opposed to trading Fast either freeing up another million (the 800k would go to the player that replaces him). - nyrangers9479
If you had read my first comment made at 12:32 am on that same first comments page, I clearly stated in full in its final paragraph:
"The fact is that all three players (in Shatty, Smith, and Namestnikov) are impossible to trade under those above dollar terms (as I mentioned there in being willing to retain 50% on only Shatty and Smith), and their respective clauses (Shatty having a modified NMC & NTC, & Smith with a modified NTC), UNLESS A SWEETENER OR MORE IN THE MINIMUM OF A MID LEVEL PICK &/OR PROSPECT IS ALSO INCLUDED."
So to begin with, the Rangers are FIRST limited in how many potential trade partners they have for both Shatty and Smith by their clauses, EVEN PRIOR TO whether the teams they would be willing to accept a trade to, would be interested in acquiring either of them at all.
Furthermore, they can't simply "TRADE NAM AND THAT'S $4M SAVED."
If they could have moved his full $4M, he would have already been dealt weeks ago either prior to or during the Draft.
It's also not beneficial that they part with a defensive specialties role player in Fast at $1.85M left in his final year. In fact, prior to signing Panarin, they were interested in signing a low cost & mainly defensive role UFA in Brian Boyle, (who has also had a scoring touch recently), to supply additional experience for their youth. They have not signed him (nor any of their RFA's) yet, only because of their cap troubles due to being still unable to part with Shatty, Smith, & the overpaid as well, Namestnikov at $4M. A buyout or more is still likely in their minds as an alternate plan. |

The Rangers weren’t interested in Boyle, he was brought up on here as a possibility. Fast is extremely replaceable. |

I initially mentioned Brian Boyle here back first in May on Jan's blog, as being a good low cost veteran option to aid their youth at center with leadership predominantly defensive wise. I also mentioned then a back line option in a reunion with Adam McQuaid for the same purpose should one of Shatty or Smith be gone, and Trouba having not yet been acquired.
At some point later in mid June came official word INITIALLY BACK THEN that THE RANGERS WOULD ONLY BE PURSUING THE LOWER COST FREE AGENTS, as opposed to the top higher priced ones, which included in part, not pursuing someone named Artemi Panarin. I believe Jan even brought up Boyle then as a possible option for similar reasons in one of his blogs.
Later with the start of free agency approaching, came OFFICIAL WORD of the Rangers interest in a potential reunion with Brian Boyle from Larry Brooks in the NY Post on June 28th, in the following article's 12th paragraph.
https://nypost.com/2019/0...e-line-on-artemi-panarin/
Brooks once again brought up Boyle as their option at 1:04 am on July 1st's free agency opening, with word there in the 8th paragraph of this article.
https://nypost.com/2019/0...rin-worth-it-for-rangers/
As for Fast, I would retain him unless you can find some option who would cost them $1M less than his $1.85M of this final season on his contract. Then don't complain if their defensive role specialty teams should struggle to some degree during the season should Fast be dealt, and having no cap space to sign Boyle. |

Saver, Fast isn’t irreplaceable. We were 27th on the PK last year, if we needed to find an extra million somewhere, trading him and having a guy like Gettinger on the 4th line wouldn’t kill us. If we find another way and he’s here come Oct on the 4th line, I’m fine with that also. |

I kind of see your point, but I'm not sure Fast was to blame for that. I think in a pinch, I would have to agree with you, you could really get anyone on the 4th line and PK and that option may already exist with the signings of Mckegg and Di Gueseppe, but for someone of his experience and age Fast makes practically nothing. He's also a guy in a pinch who doesn't look totally out of place on the 2nd line if you have a bunch of injuries. So while, Fast isn't irreplaceable, he's someone that 100% you want on the team come October. As our kids develop and eventually need contracts in the future, you need solid cheap roster players. Fast is one of those people. |

Panarin trashing Vlad Putin and Russia.
This can’t end well for him. If he disappears we know why.

So, what happens to his Cap hit when he gets assassinated?
Plenty of money to sign Trouba, Kreider, ADA, etc. |
