So where is the basic human right aspect to this? Social media is a luxury.

Social media is a human right? I think of it as more of an annoying thing that my family and friends guilt me into staying on.

Although not worded the best, I think it's likely the censorship of free speech, essentially, that is the issue at hand.

Banning the use social media isnt really banning free speech. Its like in school and teachers say dont use your phones, same thing.

Banning free speech is what twitter, facebook and etc are doing when they ban "hate speech" or "vulgar speech" and things like that.

I think there's a fair discussion to be had. But your example is pretty terrible. There's a pretty massive chasm between a teacher telling their students not to use their phones during class and banning people from using any form of social media ever. This isn't some restriction on KHL officials tweeting while they skate around on the ice or pick fights with fans after games.

It is a pretty fair argument to say free speech is being banned in this scenario. Of course jobs imposing restrictions on people's lives and rights to some capacity isn't that unusual.

This is ridiculous. Basic human rights? Nhl players have an obligation to show up to camp in shape, and are held accountable if they don't. Have you ever heard of anyone screaming basic human rights as a result?

There are countless jobs that have social media policies. My job has a social media policy. Does that mean my human rights are being messed with?

This is first world problems if I've ever seen it. On top of never even writing an article. Is there any kind of proof reading phase to pass on this site or can you all just submit whatever you feel like?

Less social media the better as they will get bashed by fans. They have the option not to work for the league.

In soviet KHL, media socials you!

All joking aside, as others have mentioned social media is more of a luxury than a human right. That being said, the fact that the head official is allowed to continue use while removing that from what are essentially his staff is kind of ridiculous and does hearken back to the days of the iron curtain.

The author of this blog is an SJW. I’m surprised he didn’t call the training camp a concentration camp.

If the officials aren't happy about not being able to use social media , then they should change profession (or league). Some fields of work prohibit employees from drinking and consuming recreational drugs outside of work hours, for safety purposes.

There is no such thing as free speech online, or on social media.

Everything online is owned by private entities and you must obey their rules or be banned, censored.

This includes websites you “own”. The company that hosts your stuff also has specific rules of whats allowed or not.

There is no such thing as “free speech” on the internet.

Just coming back from a European vacation, the peoples view on social media is vastly different in Europe than North America. They value their privacy greatly, relatives asked us not to post any pictures of them or their property online, and public places like malls have signs at entrances stating no photography is allowed. It seems strange to our sensibilities but I totally get it.
