Interesting. #Flyers have signed Chris Stewart, who turns 32 in October, to a pro tryout. Last season he played in the UK. Was last in the NHL in 2017-18 where he started the season…you guessed it, in Minnesota under Chuck Fletcher. Could be a 3RW candidate.

It's a PTO..... not all that much unlike the one R.J. Umberger got in Dallas from Hitchcock and Nill before the 2017-18 season. Stewart is probably done as an NHL player but it can't hurt to take a look in camp, and he knows Fletcher well.

He could totally be a 3RW candidate.. at LHV, Reading... in the KHL. You need to be alive to ALL the possibilities

Regarding Stewart, I can't get behind the it's can thurt to look. The guy is clearly done, just taking away ice/eyes on someone that is realistsic for 3/4th line

It’s a PTO. No risk...just more competition. A chance for a player to showcase himself and a chance for Flyers to get the first look. Competition is good...more is better.

This is not true. If they don’t like anything they see, they can just release him from the tryout.

I dont get the big deal. Its a PTO, it isnt a commitment. This just looks like Fletcher doing a guy he knows a favour. Unless he stands out positively, he isnt going to make the team. NAK is not waiver eligible so its likely NAK sticks with the team unless they view him as an acceptable loss

PTOs also allow a player to showcase themselves to other teams not just the one they signed with. Another team can like what they see and sign him to a 1 year deal

Yeah, it smells like a personal favor kind of PTO, to get Stewart on the NHL radar again.

Stewart's a nice kid, but the more structured the league became, the more he looked out of place.

only 31 seems like he has been around forever. He would add some toughness though as you said such a longshot

All this gnashing of teeth and rending of garments over a guy who will just be a warm body at camp to give the kids some tough love.

PTOs always seemed rather useless to me. You know the guys are washed up. Give a few extra looks to some kids and see how they do against tougher competition. Stewart is a AHL player at best at this point.

we're just doing Stewart a favor so he can get noticed by other teams

If we somehow run into a crazy amount of injuries on the wing he might be a decent fallback option on a 2 way deal
