Nylander is a very good, young, talented player.

His apprehension to go to areas where he might get hit/hurt (in front of the net and in the corners when receiving a bodycheck ends up being the right play) is the major point he needs to work on to go to that next level.

If he doesn't, won't be the end of the world. Every player has their style and it will work for him at some degree.

He'll keep scoring, just won't be as effective a player as he could be.

I think you have it wrong. At what the leafs are paying Nylander the expectation should not be a rebound. They have paid him based on future expectations, not past performance. 20 goals, 60 points does not land you a 7 mil contract.
He needs to be a 30 goal, 70+ point guy to earn his paycheck and not be considered a bust player with a boat anchor contract.

Don't worry, the Flyers lowered the bar for what's expected of a 7 million dollar player for us

He’s kind of like a Phil kessel in the corners. Nylander tries to take the puck using skill instead of the body.

Phil has seemed to do ok without playing the body either. Nylander has a great shot like Phil but he needs to hit the net more.

Kessel has a better shot. Willy is just so handsome though the goalie could get distracted for a moment. Who could blame him.

getting 70+ points mostly depends on PP time.
to date Nylander has been a very good 5v5 point producer. Also he probably wont score 30 goals. So far he gets around 200 shots a season @ 10% shooting. so maybe 20 goals.

Now if he went on a sh% bender he may hit 30, but he is a playmaker and imo should be stuck to Matthews all season (like Marner/Tavares) ..then there is nothing to worry about

But when goalies look at Kessel they turn to stone.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

Nylander will be right with Marner in points this year.

But I agree with the PP time...but I think Barrie is going to help and the PP will be changed up this year.

The only way I don’t see him getting 60+ points is if he’s injured for more than 10 games.

I'm not saying he is going to get to 30/70. I'm saying that's what he needs to do to justify his stupid contract. I think the bud is off the rose for all three wonder kids this year, and they better be prepared for some harsh criticism as they will be judged on their ability to produce as top paid players in the league. Contracts they never should have received and can't possibly live up to. (assuming Marner gets what is rumored of course)

It’d funny because Willie comes up with the puck in the corners more than most of the team.

And he drives the net a (frank) ton more than Kapanen does...who some think can replace Willie.

You’re asking a lot of Willie, but I too wish he’d head for the post rather then curl and wait for Pha9 to tee 1 up
