totally agree with you Karine. identify your core and pay them, if possible to friendly contracts. no need to wait an extra year to know that Domi will be an important part of this team for many years. like they knew for Gallagher.

Domi just got lucky. Galchenyuk is the better player, but unfortunately was injured. Eventually it will be obvious that Chayka won this trade.

I 100% agree with Karine. Bergevin has to get an extension done as soon as he can!

Remove Mason, Alzner, Weise, Peca and that creates about 9.6Mil more in cap space.

Sounds ideal, but why wouldn't he just wait to maximize his contract? Taking a pay dip just for security isn't worth it in my eyes if I was a player.

If he can't repeat last season he may end up with less money.

That's fair, but he would be betting against himself. He's starting to enter his prime, so it only makes sense to project him as scoring the same of not more. I guess some personalities would prefer the security of a contract now, but Domi doesn't strike me as such.

if he repeats he's looking for what? 7x7M?
let's offer him 7x6M right now and see if he takes it. nothing to lose if you're MB.

I think $8.8M will land you Domi and maybe an entry level player if he once again eclipses 70 points. He's going to eat up most of that cap space moving forward if he's coming off back to back 70 point seasons at his age.

Alzner accounts for half of that. how exactly do you remove him during the final 3 years of his contract?

You trade him to a team that’s almost on the cap floor or you buy him out. When Domi’s extension will kick in, Alzner’s contract will only have 2 years left.

They'll probably buy him out next year.

according to the buyout calculator that only helps in 2021-2022, barely saves them anything for 2020-21

I'd be fine with that.

Domi was the team's sparkplug all year long. Scored plenty of clutch goals too.

It's been very understated how great of a trade that was by Bergevin.
