Yes.

Their depth is weak, center depth is even weaker. Their defense isn't even that great.

And the year before he had an .892

As I said I think some teams in the metro are really going to struggle with goaltending and I think Carolina HAS to be included there. Mrazek has never started 55+ games and Reimer is questionable. I like CAR up front but swapping De Haan for Forsling was brutal

- WSCTeton17

And Trotz wasn’t there the year before...

De Haan was swapped for Fleury/Bean

Mrazek is a beast.

This is the way I see it assuming all RFAs are signed.

I think the Rangers will struggle in goal but will obviously score more.

I think NJD will be fine in net. They’ve got a great coach, Schneider played well at the WHC, they improved their roster on d and up front.

I think CAR will regress in goal. I like Mrazek and I think he’ll be fine but that tandem will be worse than it was this past season. They got worse on D but better up front.

I think Hart/Elliott will be a good tandem in Philly and I think Niskanen will rebound. If Hayes is 2C and gets decent PP minutes he could get 55-60 points playing with two of Voracek, Giroux, JVR, Konecny while playing behind

CBJ is an obvious regression. They’ll play the right way but will struggle to score and their goalies might not be able to handle the workload

The Islanders will look dominant at times and will struggle at times

Fleury who was heavily sheltered this last run? Sportsnet talked about his lack of usage often

When I think of someone who’s a beast I think of someone who’s dominating, like Rask this last postseason or Binnington. He had a .929 EVS% last year which is great but just before that in Philly it was .901. He’s got tons of potential but right now it’s been hot and cold. Glad they kept him but beastly isn’t the word I would use. Reimer is 30 and had a .900 all situation and .909 at ES. Hardly spectacular. McElhinney was at .917

My guess for the Metro

Caps
Canes
Isles
Pens
Flyers
Devils
Rangers
Jackets

Edit: I expect the metro to maybe be the tightest division, so my order is much closer than it seems.

I fully expect an implosion for CBJ.

So what does that make Rask who has a .929 ESsv% for his career? Murray is at .926. Mrazek at .922. Gibson is at .925. Didn’t you say Lehner is overrated or something? He’s at .923. Like how many beastly goalies are in this league

Pens miss the playoffs. You heard it here first folks.
- Feds91Stammer

It's the first season in over a decade I'm not heading into it just assuming they'll make the playoffs.

Having said that I wouldn't be shocked if they win the division either.

Can go either way this year IMO.

I don’t get the hype around the Canes. They’re likely going to be worse in net and on D and are they really that much better up front over last season?

TT-Aho-El Nino
Williams-Staal-Svechnikov
Haula-Necas-Dzingel
McGinn-Wallmark-Foegele

I’m not saying they’re going to be bad but I have reservations about how good the team will be overall

If we can be honest doesn’t it seems like the stats community is just negative in general? Like how many people aside from me are counting on James Neal rebounding from last season?

Todd Cordell did a nice article recently on how The Real Deal James Neal is training with Scary Gary (Roberts) which should help his conditioning but how Neal is a rebound candidate anyways merely because of puck luck. Most fancy stat folks are just negative. “Well, he regressed negatively once so it’ll probably happen again.” The problem there is that regression can also be back toward the mean (average) but seldom does this forum take that POV

I am not saying that people cannot express their thoughts, there is just page upon page of it.

The Pens are not the CBJ. The Pens are several seasons away from a rebuild. The Pens are a more complete team to start this season that the last. The Pens are younger, faster and possibly harder to play against.

And just to offset my rainbows and unicorns...The Pens STILL employ Jack Johnson.

Now that our core is aging I think we can refer to the word rebuild as the ‘R word’

How bout that steal of a Guentzel contract

The R word...I can get behind that.

It is a huge steal as long as he continues and Sully doesn’t out-coach himself and break them up.

Feds true or false

Yzerman > Fedorov?

Did you know Yzerman was Crosby’s idol growing up? They do share a few things in common

- Barnaby36

Federov was better than Yzerman for sure lol

edit: on second thought looking at their stats, nope. I was wrong.

Galchenyuk Tanev Kahun Mccaan Blueger>Kessel. Kessel is better than anyone of those players individually but hockey is a team sport.
