...and what a 4th line that would be!

I really hope they can manage to keep Rust. If they do this might be their deepest forward group in quite some time.

very team friendly signing at $750k per year. 24 year old depth forward under $1M is def a win.

Good deal. Basically two more years of an ELC value contract for an NHL contributor. We need those now more than ever.

His goal scoring pace would have placed him 5th in 5v5 goals for the team. He was also playing wing with Cullen and Wilson a lot, so his production is not something I am worried about. 10+ goals and 20+ points at even strength is a pretty reasonable guess to his production next season, which is fantastic value.

Josh Yohe just wrote an article on what he thinks the lines will be based off discussions around the organization

Jake-Sid-Rust
McCann-Malkin-Galchenyuk
Kahun-Bjugstad-Hornqvist
Tanev-Blueger-Simon

Dumo-Letang
Petts-Schultz
JJ-Gudbranson

He also said the belief right now is that Jake and Chucky will both be on the first PP unit

So we just have no right hand shot for the left half wall? Sick.

I do think that moving Galch to right wing could reap dividends. Really lean hard into his ability as a goal scorer and acknowledge that the other aspects of his game are limited and just put him in a position to score transition goals.

That lineup probably isnt cap compliant.

Question for the Cap experts: Do the Pens have to trade someone before signing anyone else to make room or can they be over the cap for a period of time?

They can be over up until a certain time. Specific date in September I believe.

Yohe acknowledged that someone is on their way out. He was just using what’s there.

Great, thanks. I was curious to see if they were pressed to make a move very soon to sign Petterson and ZAR.

This sounds so much like how they treated James Neal

I really don’t like the Galchenyuk-Neal comparisons but I’m usually an advocate of moving guys with limited games but good goal scoring acumen to their off side. It is what we did with Neal and it worked super well and I think it could do well with Galch too.

Him and Neal are nothing alike.

I also agree with playing the off-wing. It could pay off if Sullivan gives it a chance.

In an reductionist way they compare well and I agree completely that a shooter like Galchenyuk would benefit from playing his off wing with a center of Geno's caliber.

It just kills leverage, which we don’t really have anyways and JR probably wouldn’t use it even if we did so it doesn’t really matter.

There is the risky option of running a less than 23 man roster to start the season.

You take JJ + Aston-Reese off the roster to Detroit for a 4rd Pick + C Prospect and there you go: cap compliant.

I'm surprised no one's chimed in that a one-way contract means he can't play in the AHL. Maybe people have finally figured it out?

You mean JJ + ZAR + 4rd Pic + C prospect for the worst player on Detroit's prospect pool? MAYBE Detroit goes for it.
