Hains: Just a Game?
How many times have you been told to stop taking hockey so seriously and that it's just a game? If you're like me, way too often...

Awesome stuff, Karine!
One of my first *real* hockey memories that sticks out in my mind vividly was the night in the playoffs in '89 where Hextall went bat poop crazy on Chelios. Hextall was almost frothing at the mouth.
The 86 Cup. The Wink. The amazing 93 Cup run. Koivu (choose one, lol) . Trent McCleary. The Patches hit. Malarchuk. Closing of the Forum. Beliveau. Too many to list, honestly.
Yup there’s just so many moments to choose from and not just from the Habs history either. The whole Lindros drama, Crosby’s golden goal in 2010, Fleury’s dying seconds save against the Wings, Super Mario’s return, konstantinov in his wheelchair celebrating another Wings’ cup, Team Canada’s ladies coming back from 2-0 down after the USA hit the post on an empty net in the gold medal game, Koivu’s return as a Duck, PK’s tears as a Pred...
The list could be endless really there would be enough material there for a book lol

Oh yeah Hextall going nuts definitely up there just as Hextall saying the Nordiques had found the weakness in Roy’s game in 93...Good old Ron! And oh yeah forgot about McCleary’s throat!

Not to discount a very recent tear jerker, when Carey met with the boy who had lost his mom. Is it a "just" a game? Absolutely, but to people in pain, to those who need an escape, or someone/something to latch on to make it through horrible things like cancer ((frank) cancer), it's so, SO much more. Its hope. It's 60 glorious minutes where you can lose yourself, and forget your troubles, even if it's only for the length of a game.

What about the magical 7 game playoff run the Leafs went on just a few months ago? Boy, that was something!
I still get teary eyed just thinking about the Tavares empty netter in game 1, well worth the 11 million dollars... possibly the greatest moment in hockey history

These moments made me think of my nan today. She passed last week of cancer at 65 and it didnt feel real until i sat down to watch/read this article.
She was a habs fan, raised me and I miss her dearly. Ive been crying since i started and i appreciate this so much.
Thank you. - MarkStoned
Sorry to hear about your nan, sincere condolences to you. To be honest I learnt last Saturday that my nephews’ dad has got cancer, they first saw it in his kidney, then in a couple of vertebrae and yesterday they found some in his lung. This whole crappy week made me reach out for comfort in hockey and yeah, i showed that Koivu video to my 9 year old nephew when he asked if people with cancer always die. It’s looking increasingly likely that its now a generalized cancer (bone biopsy results should be in within a week) but cross that bridge when we get there... Cancer is such a a-hole...you should not have to deal with your dad’s possible death when you’re 6 and 9
