Agreed.. If CBJ thinks we would/could match any offer, then they should offer a trade. |

We could also just let Hainsey walk.. I hear Ottawa is willing to give him $3.5M |

Right now with open cap space and Hortons contract going to LTIR there is just over 9MM in cap space.
Also there is 13 forwards and 8 D on the roster. Not all of them will be with the big club come the start of the season. That opens up another 1.5 - 3 MM.
They've got the space to get Marner signed to a good contract |

Leafs just cleared a ton of space and have 10.5 they can scrape together..thats for Mitch..all the work is done
I bet max $100 (donate to charity) that Nylander is a Leafs at the start of the season.
Its not even a question for me. Dubas wont trade him. Id make another bet if anyone wants to. Willie is a Leafs for a long time |

CBJ would have to do the long term offer sheet if at all. They dont have the 2nd or 3rd rounders for a short term offer sheet. |

The NHL is going to implement a rule that the cap hits of an organization's drafted players will be reduced to 75% of the actual AAV. They are going to do this just to appease MLSE and the hockey world will hate Toronto even deeper.
Either that or the Leafs are just going to have a high price core and a bunch of bargain bin contracts for the next 6 years. |

The bargain bin contract method worked for Pittsburgh.
Spezza, Shore, Agostino, Moore, Harpur, Dermott (for now at least), Hutchinson, Gauthier all under $1M |

Marner should take the same path as Nylander and wait till the very last minute and get the deal that lets him walk as an UFA in 4 years. If Marner waits till Dec 1st, he will not get above 9 Mil as the Leafs couldn't take that cap hit without trading a player or two first, but he could get 8.5 for 4 years and then walk to the highest bidder. It seems fairly apparent that the Leafs and Marner are going in different directions with the chasm growing day by day. |

sounds like CBJ wanted to do a longer term, which makes sense because the only way Mitch signs is for the 4 firsts range.
Mitch side wants shorter term
the longer this goes, the better its for the Leafs imo.
Teams are using up space and are limited in what they can do.
Dubas just stand his ground and get him for under 10

Problem for Leafs would be they would be giving up the best player in any trade involving Marner. Jones is very good, at 46 points he's not on a par with Rielly -offensively at least. Anderson is a 25 year old coming off his best season ever 47 points (a fourth rounder) and Werenski is good, but also an RFA.
Marner is a keeper. Now if they offer sheet him big time, 4 firsts (with that goaltending) we might be talking 3 or 4 lottery picks and hello Lafreniere!

I think this is totally made up and we have no idea what Mitch wants.
at this point its on his agent, this is his tactics..the agent wants to get close to the UFA years because thats the most $$ for his client.
I would be totally shocked if Mitch actually just wanted to go anywhere else for more money |

I'm hoping he does sign an offer sheet soon if one is sent his way. This drama needs to stop. |

He can't afford to wait past the season opener, because the cap hit this year will put Leafs over. Don't have the room they had when they let Nylander sit.

i know that.
But from what someone posted his agent has a tendency to let it slip a few days or a week into the season..they could probably squeek that out |

Doubt Marner wants to sign an offer sheet.
Perhaps he already has turned down that one or more offers like Point did.
Unless Marner discloses it, I doubt a turned down team is going to talk about it. |

I'd agree with you in most cases, because I think Marner is very, very, very good.
But if I had to take one defenseman in the entire league to start building around.
It would be Seth Jones.
I wouldn't trade Jones for Marner 1 for 1.
But I guess that's just an opinion. |

If you read the interviews (there are a few around) with Paul Marner - he's likely the problem not the idiot agent. The agent just wants his commission check - doesn't care if it's a less than the maximum. Paul Marner, wants his son to be the highest paid Leaf because he led them in scoring two years in a row. Major whining and butthurt in those interviews.
