I was watching some old clips from the 08 and 09 cup runs recently and it was scary at how young Geno looked. |

So I should be expecting a long term deal from GMJR any time now. |

You do have to have been at least in the NHL before, and be underperforming with another team who didnt re sign you first. |

We’re past free agency and the draft and we’ve been rehashing the same conversations for about a month now. We might get a spike in activity when we trade Rust, but this is probably the new normal for the rest of the offseason. |

Historically August is the deadest month in the NHL with most GMs taking their vacays. Some arbitration stuff though usually I think. Im expecting some Penguin movement in the next week or so. |

Most teams want to be basically set by the end of the month. Once more RFAs sign I think we see a few trades and maybe a buyout or two. |

Well, we are a bit more activity inclined due to the RFA putting us over the cap when its signed... so just hoping for news or more RW rage. |

All I really do at this point it check every day to see if JJ has been traded. Everything else at this point is meaningless until camp starts.
The Rust trade will go off with little fanfare unless it’s part of a JJ trade since moving Rust simply makes room for everyone else we currently have. |

Rust got married this weekend. Surprised jim didn't trade him during it |

I just wish the Penguins could've found the cap space to put an offer together for Marner (I know the chances were 0%). Seems like he is set on Toronto, its just a question of finding the term/$ balance... but man, i like watching him play.
Looking ahead to next season. I like that we brought some speed back to the forward lines. I think all of these moves are useless if Malkin has a repeat season from last year. He has to be better in all three zones and be that complete player that he can be, but hasnt been. If the top line finds its scoring touch again, Malkin returns to a normal level that makes sense given his age, and the bottom 6 can actually score... I think this team is in the playoff discussion without a question.
Still would like to see Bjugstad traded. I think a lot of people here overrate him. He is an expensive guy and I think someone will overpay for him. |

I’d rather trade Rust attached to Jacko than Bjugstad tbh. I like how he can play C and Wing just as good. He has that Staal thing to him. Can play good defensively.
That said I’d rather see Hörnqvist’s contract go with Jacko before Rust or Bjugstad but it’s VERY unlikely. |

Geno was fine last year. His "poor season" is way overblown.

I like Bjug's position flexibility. I thought the line of Bjug, Hornie and Simon was excellent down the stretch.
I'm not buying into the doom and gloom. This is still a contender. My primary concern is a starting defense that contains JJ and Guddy. I don't see how that works. The constant rumor is they're trying like hell to trade JJ....so it's possible that won't be a problem when the puck drops in October. |

Too bad he didn’t. Rust carries a lot of the “well I won two cups already” around with him. Decent enough player just has no balls and soft as bird poop. Send that weak ass poop packing. |

Fortunately, even if that's the defense we start with, a lot can change in 6 months.
I'm actually more worried about Schultz bouncing back and do we have a good line combo for Malkin than JJ. Fixing a bottom defensive pair is easier than fixing a second line or #3 defenseman. |

Question, idk how line shifts work. Is it when Sids on the ice Letang is? I just dont know how the whole JJ thing comes about, hockey seems to be played so quick how does Sid get certain defenders and Malkin gets the shaft?
I believe the 3rd line with Tanev-Bjugstad-Hornquist would be one hell of a line to play against. I'd roll with that line and try and package Rust with JJ. |

Rust is a hard one to gauge. He sometimes looks unstoppable out on the ice and does come through in the clutch. I would almost rather us trade JJ and ZAR and let Riikola be on the 3rd pairing. I think Rust and Tanev will let us run 2 PK lines with potential to score Short handed goals. |
