I’d do it, if for no other reason then it is easier to hide a trash forward than a trash Defenseman.

I remain optimistic that the next CBA negotiation will bring about compliance buyouts. There’s no rule that’s says you have to have a lockout to have compliance buyouts, it’s just simply worked out that way previously.

Very true about sheltering forwards and D. A big issue with the compliance buyouts is that the players don’t want them, the owners do. It’s a big back and forth just like escrows and the cap

If I’m New Jersey I offer Gardiner 1 year at $8MM with no trade protection and I move Sami Vatanen. Give him a signing bonus too so he has more value to acquiring team if they’re somewhat cap strapped. Even if he doesn’t want to stay you flip him and Simmonds during the season for assets, maybe they retain some money. Best case scenario: you get something for Vats and you extend Gardiner

Name calling? Come on that insults your intelligence. Go to your designated safe space and recoup. Check a couple stats websites and comeback with another comment mentioning that someone is over paid for too long. Please I’d love to hear it again.

And that’s why Bonino is gone.

There is no ceiling for Bjugstad. He is what he is. A very meh center that is overpaid for what he provides.

- Feds91Stammer

Where the market is now, I think 15/35 at 3C or 20/40 at wing gets you 4M like WSC was pointing out, these aren't numbers Bjugstad is incapable of, an surpassed them just a season ago (17-18).

I will agree with you that if you need to cut salary an you have a guy who makes and produces at market value (Bjugstad, Maatta, Rust, Tanev are all guys I'd give that label to), those are guys you should look to move PROVIDED you have an in-house replacement. Pens I'm not sure do and 3C is too important a position to skimp on with a lease player.

So... anyone else wondering why JR hasn't made another trade yet?

Because, we do HAVE to trade away a bit more salary to resign Petterson and Bluegar, right?

- Guile

There are a lot of teams in the same position and few teams with cap room. So the cap space teams are playing hardball this year and it's clogging up the trade market.

Two per team would likely not be a terribly bitter pill for the NHLPA to swallow. Most of those wouldn’t even be used.

My guess is that someone like Lucic or Eriksson would appreciate the compliance buyout and would then get to pick where they wanted to go (as long as that team wanted them - a crazy concept, not every team wants every player). Guys who aren’t buyout candidates yet and got no-trade or no-move protection don’t want to have to think of a compliance buyout in a year or two and that includes the lower guys like Tanev to put it into a Penguins perspective

BTW, many are complaining about the Dzingel and MoJo contracts. SN is reporting that these players are gambling on themselves that they’ll perform and with a higher cap will get bigger paydays in 2 years (or a large extension in 1)

He said his corsi and other advanced stats were better and that you only won because he picked the penguins and had Jack Johnson on his team

Makes sense. I kept seeing Johnson not being able to get the Puck to Malkin, and that’s why he lost.

And then when you explained to him that you physically control the players in NHL 19, he told you to shut up and you’re wrong
