Interesting report out of Columbus (Aaron Portzlline) that: Marner is not moving towards signing an offer sheet from anyone (he wants to stay in Toronto) and the Leafs will generate the needed CAP space to match any contract offer by trading Nylander.

Nylander is a good fit for the Sen's. The Leafs would not be able to take back any salary. They would likely want a high end defensive prospect in return.

Would you give up Braanstrom as the key piece in a trade for Nylander...tough call.

So... we would give away a promising D in Braanstrom. For an over priced Nylander just to help the leafs keep Marner?

If we were trading for Nylander, the leafs better be retaining a ton of salary and we better be giving up basically nothing.

I actually thought it would be fun to offer sheet Marner a stupid amount of money as we can afford it and it would piss off the leafs, but we have such a good chance at getting the #1 pick next year. I'd hate to risk that by having to give up four first round picks.

Braanstrom is good but that's not a good fit for Toronto. They won't need to clear 7m in cap space to fit Marner in. They might need to clear 2 or 3 mill at most. If Nylander were traded it would be for a player that helps the team immediately. I'd much rather dump Ceci and go with a rookie in his position way before I trade Nylander. Dumping Ceci and replacing him with a rookie or a cheap vet would clear about 3m in cap space.

Lol "retain a ton of salary". That's hilarious.

Nylander is softer than baby poop, you can keep him.
