IMO, if the Habs really wanted to sign Gardiner they wouldn't have signed Chiarot.

Yeah, indeed. So I guess that Mete is a lock to stay on the first D pair?

Either that or they acquire a better option via trade.

Can't believe I am missing Andrew Shaw

I was naive to believe that this whole Shaw trade + offer sheet was some kind of an elaborated plan with options B and C or D.

The return he got for Shaw was still worth pulling the trigger on, also opens up a spot on the right side for Suzuki

What in Bergevin's track record made you think he was a mastermind with back-up plans?

Can someone explain to him that if you dump a 4M$ guy but sign 4 1M$ plugs it evens out?

Well I'm sure Thompson, Varone, Weal and Cousins could beat Andrew Shaw.

+ 3 draft picks

Only this fan base would b!tch about acquiring Shaw for 2 second round picks and then b!tch again about trading him back for pretty much the same return 3 years later!!

I'm really happy they traded Shaw and I think it's a nice return.

oh yes the return. draft picks unlikely to turn into a player half as good as the player traded in 5 years when the team. totally worth weakening a non-playoff team that couldn't score down the stretch.

as for the Nick Suzuki thing... i can't even. how does this make any sense? he hasn't even played a pro game. he could be 2 years away for all we know. and if Nick Suzuki blew poop up in training camp but Andrew Shaw was still here, they wouldn't find room for him?

you're grasping at straws. no one female doged about the trade when it happened. it was well received.

Dont be so sensitive... what word should I have used? Complain? Being displeased? Not liking? Whatever you wanna call it, it was a pretty general comment about this fan base always looking for the negative

Which trade? The trade that brought him to Montreal or the trade that just sent him back to the Hawks?
