Wasn't every Leaf RFA supposed to get offersheets and Nylander would eb traded because of "Cap Hell"? LOL. Will people admit they are wrong?

. How exactly? I don't want to hear nonsense that he;s millions overpaid blah, blah, blah.
- RogerRoeper

Nylander's value was at it's highest 2 seasons ago. The Leafs could have traded him for a legit, young, top 4 defensemen. Instead, they tried to sign him. He played hard ball and they didn't sign him until December. He was paid 7M.

His point production diminished and so has his value. 27 points last season playing next to some of the best offensive players in a league. What a fail...

His contract then screwed up negotiations with Matthews (only on a 5 year contract seems like a mistake) and now with Marner (who knows how long he will hold out for?)

So much drama about the leafs ...and all to just lose in game 7 to Boston every year.

It's truly a comedy. The Leaf fans on here get so upset. Very very enjoyable.

I would of given up 4 picks for McDavid before he signed his deal! He is the only one that should of been considered for this.
- guno89

Agreed! He would be the only one

What? He just turned 23. Are you saying he's peaked? LOL. And why do the Leafs want to trade a top 10 pick who's never scored less than 61 points in a full season for any top 4 D? Sounds like a Chiarelli move to me.

His point production diminished because he missed 2 month of the season and all of training camp and shot onl 5% . LOL that won't happen again in his career.

1 time 50 point players are getting 6-7 million. Nylander has 2 60 point seasons already.

And BTW, take a look at the Leafs top 4 D. It's actually pretty damn good. They don't need another right now.

Every time I read Ek’s comments, it’s the same losers over and over taking shots at him. If you guys think he’s full of sh*t then why are you reading it? Are you little boys victims of click bait? Ooooh poor little victims 😞 Grow up you dorks!

It's equally enjoyable to see other fan bases being so obsessed with the Leafs.

Giving Matthews a 5 year term kept his AAV below 13M. I'm ok with it. By the time he's due for a new contract, the cap will be much, much higher with the new American TV deal, the Seattle expansion and the gambling platform being a few years old. The sport is growing, and the revenues will grow with it.

Just not good that it takes him right to unrestricted free agency.
Hopefully they extend him before it is up.

Hardest thing to do in the NHl is score 5 on 5 goals. Matthews is by far the best. No one's in his league. That's why he's a very high cap hit.

Look beyond career high of 73 points. Skinner got 9 with 63 point career high and he was a winger. (Skinner is 3rd 5 on 5 goals last 3 years).

Marner's career high is 26 goals. That hurts him a lot.

In 5 years the cap ceiling should be 1 BILLION dollars!!!!

I am just happy the cap is set at 83 million this year like everyone said was guaranteed...oh wait

My thoughts are that if they can't extend him on Jan 1 of his contract year, he will be dealt for a BOAT LOAD of picks and prospects.

Well, the Leafs defense last year was terrible. Do you watch any games???

Why do you think they were a 1st round exit?

You can give all the excuses you want about why Nylanders "play" diminished. But facts ARE facts. He had 27 points playing next to elite talent. That's not worth 7M.

The leafs top 4 is about the same as last years. They lost Gardnier(good), and Zaitsev (ok). They added Barrie (great) and Ceci (terrible). Maybe Ceci works out? But so far he hasn't and I go by facts. The same reason why I don't like how the Hawks acquired Alexander Nylander.

Actually, making fun of the leafs is great, but Nylander's contract is pretty much fine. Points wise he is similar to Reinhart (not play styles but whatever), and most sabre fans will be happy if Reinhart's deal next summer is 7 mil.
