Per Dobber sports frozen tools: Rust put up 15 points playing with Sid and Jake last year and didn’t put up more than 2 points playing with any other line combination at ES
- WSCTeton17

Sure. He played over 500 minutes with Sid and Jake and that makes sense. While playing 90-99 minutes with other players.

I’m seeing that he put up 5 points with Kessel, 3 points with Derek Grant, 3 with Sheahan, 3 with ZAR, 3 with Cullen.

So yeah, he can produce up and down the line up.

I don’t really know if Kessel’s point totals are going to drop that much. I can see him hovering around 75-80 still. He produced in Toronto on a poop team.

I'm thinking low to mid 60's.

Lets revisit this down the road.

I’ve got him pegged at maybe 35 at ES and 35 on the PP which would represent a 12 point decrease. Phil’s most common linemates in the 2014 season were Bozak, JVR, and then Kadri. He had 38 ES points with Bozak and JVR and 10 with Kadri and JVR. At that time Bozak had 49 points and was 28 years old, JVR had 30/31 and was 25, and Kadri had 51 points at 24. Phil had 80 points and was 26 years old

Phil is slotted to play with Stepan and Keller (as I expected). Keller just had 47 points and Stepan was on pace for 40 if he had been healthy. The AZ PP will improve but I don’t think it’ll be as good as Pitt’s and Tocchet gives his second unit a fair amount of time relative to other teams. QoT matters. I don’t think Phil at 70 points at a 6.8MM cap hit is a failure by any means

If Galchenyuk gets 14 minutes at ES (like Kessel got) I could see him getting 2.2pts/60 with Geno. That would be 42 even strength points. He’s an elite PP talent so I don’t see why he wouldn’t get a look on the top PP

First Half - CF% 50.3, FF% 51.1, SF% 52.3, SCF% 54.6, HDCF% 56.2, SH% 8.97
Second - CF%51.0, FF% 51.6, SF% 50.4, SCF% 54.5, HDCF% 60.0, SH% 6.5

Shots for dropped slighty, but high dangers chances went up, shooting percentage dropped. He had a strong finish but was having real trouble finding the back of the net. I would be significantly more worried about his game if he couldn't generate chances and shots, but he can. I'm not worried.

Appreciate the research

I prefer to use relatives. I also was talking about year to year, not first half to second half. He's been declining the last couple years. They're still good numbers, but they were among the best in the league before that.

No, but we all know how Sullivan feels about players who are poor defensively.

Btw Chucky had 40 ES points in MTL in 16 after he had 34 and put up a pace of 40+ the following year playing with tons of different combinations so I don’t think returning to 40 at ES is outlandish

Dave Pagnotta from the 4th period just said the chatter he's hearing is that JJ is the most likely player the Pens move to dump salary. Said he has talked to someone in JJ's camp who said the Pens have informed him something may happen after the market shakes out. Pens may also be looking for a bargain defenseman to hold that #6 spot

EDIT- said 3 teams have at least talked about JJ as a plan B option but are trying to get other players first. Take it for what you think it's worth.

Imagine thinking that’s a fair trade for anyone besides the Pens.

Phil's first 45 games: 18g, 51pt ES: 11g 29pt.

Last 37: 9g 31 pt, ES: 4g 17pt.

I think he was wearing down. Also 2 straight playoffs he did not elevate his scoring like he usually has.

So I think he'd be mid 60s even on Pittsburgh.

Meh, The Sens aren't really giving up anything and they still have to hit the cap floor/ice a roster

Bjugstad and ZAR are serviceable, Maybe Ottawa wants a "tough guy" to police the youngsters like Gudbransson?

To me I'd think Vegas would be wanting more, not that they should, but if they think they have the next Dadanov or Panarin, then they'll want more than a distant 2nd and a 3rd

Ya, when people want to point out how much he "produced" with Bozak and whoever, He was also 24/25 - He's 31 going on 32 and you age a lot quicker when you don't take care of yourself physically

LOL

Really? I get where you're trying to get with toughness for the top 2 lines but I find it unlikely.

- Barnaby36

It is very unlikely, sad though. Sid still has to be the first guy in on pucks even though he plays with young speedy forwards who hangout in the high slot all the time. Which by all means is fine for Guentzel. For god sakes though give him someone with speed that’s not afraid to knock pucks free. No reason Wilson can’t be a younger, faster and heavier hitting player than Hornqvist. Tanev could do the same for Geno.

I’ll never forget when Ryan Wilson tried to peg an overtime playoff(maybe series ending) loss on Craig Adams against the rangers. He said Adams was slow and simply let whoever scored walk right into the zone. However it was a 3 on 2 and Adams was taking the pass away and squeezing the shooting players angle at the same time. Dude just beat Fluery. It was then I realized Wilson really didn’t know poop about hockey, or just ignores it when it’s players he doesn’t like.

He was the guy who dove face first on the puck and took a Lidstrom stick to the head after Fleury made "The Save" with 2 seconds left in Game 7

He was also Disco's NARC which takes some of the shine off...

I really can't comment on his game, but my emotional attachment to him was when I was a kid, I didn't know where to find the penguins line up except the NHL games. I just remember from NHL 09 to 10 to 11, and so on he was always in our line up. I have a thing for the guys from the 2009 cup.

If I recall correctly, Dan and Shero had a similar obsession with Adams?

He would lock a shot with his teeth in the middle of October. He would also jump between Scott Hartnell and Sid even though Sid started it and Adams really couldn’t fight for shi t.

I just keep a cum towel within arms reach under my bed like a normal person my friend. Why so salty? You can usually take a joke.
