Sweeten it how? Canes match or don’t. There is no 3rd option. You are incredible posting this crap.
Explain yourself or don’t bother responding when called out on your blogs as usual. |

Nope.
Think of it as a valid contract. Carolina has two options, and two options only:
- match the contract. It has to be matched exactly - no changes allowed. None. Think of it as taking the Word document and doing a search and replace: take out Montreal Canadians and put in Carolina Hurricanes. IF they do, no trade for a year.
- decline to match and take the compensation.
What Carolina can do is tell the Habs they won't match if the Habs trade another player to Carolina for a ham sandwich.
Example:
"Hey Bergy - if you trade us Carey Price for a 4th round draft pick, we won't match your offer sheet."
So technically, Ek isn't wrong on this, in that there is something possible.
It won't happen, but technically it is possible. |

It isnt officially trading though. As per Bill Meltzer
No, it cannot directly be done as a trade. But it can be a de facto trade with the offer-sheeting team: team A agrees not to match the offer, accepts the draft pick compensation and then immediately flips some/all of the picks back to team B in a trade. That was how the Chris Gratton situation went down between the Flyers and Lightning (after Tampa illegally tried to trade Gratton's rights to Chicago later the same day the Flyers signed him to an offer sheet). Ultimately, the Lightning did not match the Flyers offer sheet, received 4 first round picks and then immediately flipped the picks back the Flyers for Mikael Renberg and Karl Dykhuis. For all intents and purposes, it was a trade for Gratton. Not officially so, however. |

Another trade is not a sweetener.
Does that explain it for you?
Now if EK could use proper Americanese & be clear i wouldn’t waste my time giving him hits on his blogs. |

Dundon and Waddell have made it clear they are matching. The delay in matching is to tie up Montreal for the full seven days for the cap space to prevent them from chasing other free agents and seeking trades with their 3 draft picks. |

Because I'm stuck at work and bored, I actually did try googling nhl offer sheet trade.
Guess what?
You're wrong. |

But within those 7 days, they can work out a deal. That is unlikely to happen but it is possible as it is within the collective bargaining agreement. |

This is the most likely case. However Bergevin does things very calculated, on the surface the offer sheet does seem like a waste of time, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him pull something off that no one is expecting.... and obviously that includes EK! |

My comments about waiting the 7 days came from Waddell and was reported by Hradek. No armchair GM, just someone who listens to what is being said. |

If the Canes just want to be vindictive they just wait the full seven days and match. Until then the Habs can’t offer anyone else that money thus by waiting the let the market play out and tie up resources until the market runs dry...maybe I’m wrong but that’s what happens often in the NFL with matching |

I think they can revamp their offer aswell correct? |

He is a very calculated GM. He makes other teams more nervous if Canes match. They will get down to biz sooner than later now. I’m glad a GM with balls uses the CBA & forces other GM’s to get serious & down to work. Predatory moves is trying to win in the Pros idgaf about other GM’s own problems. |

Canes can be vindictive all they want. It doesn't force other RFA’s to rush to sign knowing MB is on the prowl & will force GM’s to offer up serious contracts. They are luvin what MB has done & has given them more leverage.
Btw that is my own take & not learned from the internet 😂😂 |

The only thing that's significant is holding the picks, the Habs still have $11 mil due to the 10% cap increase, they wouldn't use the total space in 7 days even if they had it all. |

MB is shrewd & ruthless with asap OS for Aho. Many other high end RFA’s out there he could move on to eg Connor or Point. |
