If they could get Gusev, would you be willing to move Galchenyuk if that was the only way to find the salary to make it happen? I would, think Gusev fits better because he can play Kessel's PP spot and has more upside

Would be two trades because Vegas is going to want cheap players or futures, but Galchenyuk would be an easy flip to recoup some of that.

For Gusev, I would honestly be comfortable sending Hornqvist somewhere and I'm a big fan of Hornqvist. He just screams 60 plus points and hi end possession forward who would absolutely help Malkin out. Also, Galchenyuk is comfortable on the off wing as well so you wouldn't have to flip him right away.

100% would rather have Gusev than Galchenyuk, Tanev, or Rust.

Do something like 1st + Hallander/Addison for Gusevs rights. And then deal Galch or Rust elsewhere.

Oh I would be 100% for this. I was making this pitch a week ago on here. I was replying to Wilson's comment under the Montreal analysis. He stated they have the room to offer sheet Gusev, but Gusev is not eligible for group 2 free agency therefor he isn't able to receive an offer sheet.

After what McCrimmon let Miller go for I would be upset if that’s what GMJR gave up for Gusev. I’m all for bringing him in but I want to buy low on the guy. Based off what McCrimmon’s done I don’t see any reason to offer more than a couple picks and none of our top prospects

3rd rounder and Tristian Jarry. Gives them a much more affordable goaltender and depth in the organization, to which they don't have much of. I don't think getting him from vegas is the tough part. The tough part is finding a trading partner for us to take salary.

I didn't think you had to be. Wasn't Aho also not eligible for group 2 free agency. Not saying you're wrong, I really don't know the rule.

Forwards weren’t the problem last year. The defenses inability to move the puck is the problem. I’ve yet to see that addressed.
- j.boyd919

The problem was the team had no identity, and got outworked by a hungrier team.

This has been addressed.

Kerfoot and Shore as well forgot those two. Kerfoot is a solid addition.
- j.boyd919

Ok. Kerfoot decent, I agree....shore...a nothing.

And still when you line it up player for player, leafs are no better, and likely slightly worse than last year.

Yeah, I'd rather do that too, I just think it's way harder to move Hornqvist's deal and since they already are over, I'm not sure there's another way to clear enough money. I'm open to other ways, just pointing out a way I know can work.

Nope. Gusev along with Boeser and a few other RFAs were not granted offer sheet status for this free agency period

You have to be group 2 or group 4 to receive an offer sheet.

Aho played three seasons before turning 22, which makes him a group 2.

Playing 2 seasons before turning 24 renders you a Group 2.
Playing a single season 24 to 27 renders you a Group 2.
Gusev has never played therefore is technically in the same category as a guy you just drafted.

Well, Gusev has shown to be a big point producer in the North American game. Definitely worth a first pick and a top-5 system prospect.

Yep. Time has shown that all European players always have a flawless adjustment to the North American game after having never played here at 26 years of age.

Seriously, if you can get the guy for some beans because Vegas can't sign him, then great, take a flier. But if you're gonna give up a 1st rounder and a top-5 prospect for a guy with zero pro NA experience...I don't know man.

Isn’t using a roster under 23 the same thing you jump on Rino for? 🤔

Gusev is reportedly looking for 2yrs at 4M. Good job GMJR.

I would suggest this was ONE of the problems, but not the only one by far. And no, it has not been addressed.
