The Canes and Habs Likely To Continue to Talk Trade

This all makes a trade very possible...The two teams can talk trade over the next week, but if the Canes match then no trade can happen for a year...The Habs were talking trade and now made it much more enticing for the Canes to move that contract

Yeah theres nothing against keeping talks going. This keeps it between the habs and the Canes, Rumor is Isles were going to jump in So in the end Canes can decide not to match, Take the picks and the Habs may be willing to Trade something else for "Future Considerations" or for a 7th round... say habs throw in Suzuki for a 7th pick in 2023 or whatever.

You should know this no trade can occur once AHo signed with Habs its either Canes match or they don’t ...once they match they are on the hook for the whole bonus and can not trade him for min 1 year

aho can't be traded. but, indirectly...

canes can agree not to match based on a trade to occur.

canes can agree to flip the habs picks (or other) back to montreal for players (e.g. drouin etc.)

That’s interesting, in theory it would work though in real life, I wonder if the Canes would be willing to work with the Habs. The Habs are basically bullying the Canes right now and people generally dont repaond well to that. If they have no choice financially, I can see the Canes working with the Habs, but if they can at all swing the Aho deal, theyre going to do it, even just on principle. Will be an interesting few days here...

yeah.

negotiations usually work a little better when you try to solve problems for the other side. not when you put their backs up against the wall by creating the problem.
