The Canes and Habs Likely To Continue to Talk Trade This all makes a trade very possible...The two teams can talk trade over the next week, but if the Canes match then no trade can happen for a year...The Habs were talking trade and now made it much more enticing for the Canes to move that contract

Canes have to sign him. You can't let a young player like this go. They made strides last year and looking to improve. You don't do that with taking picks or taking a couple 19 year old kids

Drouin and stuff for Aho.

That will be it.

If Carolina does anything but match this offer then the entire front staff should be immediately fired. This is a no-brainer. That player, on that contract is extremely fair, especially considering the impact of losing him as replacing him with Druin is a laughable situation.

Not sure about that... I might be mistaken but per NHL.com Aho simply cannot be traded during that 7 days period.

What are you suggesting here Ek?

I agree. Match it in a heartbeat.

But, the thing some people may have missed is where Aho gets paid about 22 million within a 12 month time frame. That may be a bit squirrely for Canes to pull off. They can but their owner is very manic in his decisions.

No! Aho cannot be traded for 1 year if either the Canes match or let him go for picks! They absolutely can work out a trade during this week

He could still be traded within the 7 days the canes have to match the offer sheet.

Can someone cite this information? I can't find it. I wasn't aware that a trade could be worked out during the week.

The Canadiens open the 2019-20 season in Carolina on Oct. 3.

This is all just a ploy to sell more tickets.

The player must give his team notice of the offer sheet and histeam then has seven days to determine if it wants to match the terms. The player cannot be traded in that seven-day period

No, but in theory, Carolina could refuse to sign him and then trade back the picks to Montreal for players - which is what would actually happen.

Im thinking that a trade to the team who he signed the offer sheet is allowed but Carolina can't be like hey u signed a sheet with the Habs? We just traded your ass to buffalo

I think the Canes will match the offer sheet because Aho is too important for them, but I don't believe for a second their GM BS, this offer is definitely going to hurt them, money and term wise. Canes fans act like their owner has deep pockets but he is barely a billionnaire and it looks like he just lost a lot of money in that minor league football venture.

aho can't be traded. but, indirectly...

canes can agree not to match based on a trade to occur.

canes can agree to flip the habs picks (or other) back to montreal for players (e.g. drouin etc.)

I can't believe the amount of Drouin + for Aho that is out there.

Why the hell would carolina want such an inconsistent player.

Because they have to deal with the threat of the offer sheet above their head. They either let Aho walk away for some picks, bite the bullet and pay massive bonuses in the next year or try to work a deal for established players and prospects.

I'll have you know that Drouin's inconsistency is very well established.
