I am going to say this one last time. It doesnt matter about the AAV, if it was 8.5, 9. 9.5 or 10. Carolina has so much cap space to match. In other words that is not a problem for Carolina. IT HAS TO DO WITH THE SIGNING BONUS.. which is the most he could offer. That is the issue for Carolina, so can we stop with the AAV. My God it is not that difficult. As well the term is going to screw Carolina as well.

The AAV has a lot do it with it as well. It is not just the signing bonus. If Montreal went up to at least 8.5, the compensation would have been 2 first rounds, a second and a 3rd. Keeping it purposely below 8.5 makes it it only 1 first, a second and a third.
That is one of the reason people keep bring up the AAV. As it goes up, so does the compensation. Also, as the average AAV goes up, so does the signing you can give. So you would have a slightly higher signing bonus, plus better compensation. The extra first may make carolina think about it for a few more seconds.
There is no chance they let him go for this offer, not after paying Marleau $6 million to get a leafs late 1st rounder.
