Actually this is NHL owners collusion at its best. Yes Bergevin would kinda be black balled like Paul Holmgren you would think. Seems like a pointless type of offer.

But he shows he is doing something and then Carolina matches and every RFA is now officially in line now. All teams/owners happy now. Aho is a Center and pretty good?


I don't think Marner to me can get over 10.5 per year for a 5 year deal.

It is less than I thought he would sign. With that said, the Habs should have gone slightly above the $8.5 which would have made the compensation 1st, 1st, 2nd, 3rd. I still think Carolina matches, but it would be harder to turn down.

That fact he signed this, to me means he either really wants out of Carolina, or the sticking point was length of contract. With this deal, he becomes a UFA. It basically just buys all his RFA years.

Can Carolina trade him now to another team or this locked into now only not matching or matching and then you can’t trade him for at least a year?

Could be a terrible decision for Bergevin. Can't see that number being even remotely high enough for the Canes to think twice about matching.

So a pointless offer sheet that risks the GM being blackballed around the league. Probably not wise.

Blackballed from what? Free agent signings? We can't get anyone to come here anyways. Trading? Every trade bergy has done has been us apparently getting hosed in. Apparently we lost the Subban trade, Drouin trade and Domi trade at the time. Why wouldn't teams want to trade with us?
