Exactly, I’m sure the canes would have wanted a 7-8 year deal and now that’s gone. Huge screw you move by Aho and the Canadians, love it lol - Code85

Must of been maybe the upfront bonus money. - poisondhearts37
eh... HELL YEAH !!!
Money in the bank, is money in the bank.
If the canes match, they're done for 21m cash out in the next year.
And they can't trade the disloyal bugger.
So basically it only leaves the Canes with three options:
1) Match and pay up.
2) Get the 1st, 2nd & 3rd from MTL.
3) Work out a trade with MTL in the next 7 days.

Carolina has a week to respond. Contract is front loaded at 21-22 million first 2 years, base yearly salary is only 700,000-750,000.
Is Dundon going eat this ? - henny1953
They'll eat it for sure. It's only 5 million or so over two years more than they'd be paying him with a standard contract.
He's a superstar and will be bringing that much to the team anyway. |

Carolina should take 7 seconds to match. - gergeswillems
Other GMs with RFAs are probably asking them to take the full week |

They have 7 days, if Carolina matched immediately The Habs could offer sheet someone else today. |

Question is is Carolina willing to pay 21m in signing bonuses in the first 12 months? |

I guess that Ryan Poehling, Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield are fair game in a couple of years.

TSN is reporting that it could be a hard offer to match. The biggest problem is the bonus structure (11.3 year one and 10.5? in year two) so 21 million upfront over the next 12 months. Apparently, Carolina gate revenue is only 21-22 million per year so it’s a lot of money upfront for that team. Should be interesting. |

Could be a terrible decision for Bergevin. Can't see that number being even remotely high enough for the Canes to think twice about matching.
So a pointless offer sheet that risks the GM being blackballed around the league. Probably not wise. |
