I'd just like to remind everyone that Pat Maroon put up 13 points in 17 games by winning some board battles and standing in front of the net on the PP. Simmonds should bring a similar skill set.

I didn't say he did want to play here. Maybe he didn't. You're right, even if we offered him more money he may still have wanted Columbus.. though idk what the heck is so great about Columbus, unless he still has family in Detroit so it's closer..
- MartysBetter88

There is a good chance that Columbus offered more money and term than we did, if there was an offer given. They are in a much more desperate situation than us.

I guess he's moving to LW then, if Palmieri and Simmonds are our top 6 RW options. This also assures Zacha, Boqvist, everyone else will be bottom 6, which is ok. Bratt can play the left side.
- MartysBetter88

There is no guarantee that Simmonds is in the top 6.

Bratt had 9 points over the last 10 games of his season (excluding the game he got hurt). He produced at over a 50 pt pace, completely fine with him in the top 6.
- rmdevil313

Same mini-run Zacha went on. They were meaningless games against opponents more interested in resting and avoiding injury than competing. Where was he the rest of the year? (Injuries aside.)

Still had a 53 point pace on team that had 0 depth for most of it. And Bratt's last 10 games were in february, don't think anyone other than the lightning were concerned about resting players then.

I don't think anyone doubts Bratt has skills or that he can be very productive at times. I think Boqvist *could* be a similar legit player. The question is do you have faith in either of these guys over the course of a grueling seasons....

This year Pat didn't put up a whole lot of points but won the Stanley Cup.
He put up 10 goals and 18 assists in 74 games...
3 goals and 4 assists in 26 playoff games last year.

Irony....

Faith to do what? It seems like there is nothing in between all star and 3rd liner for some of you.

Faith to remain in the line up and productive.

Bratt flamed out his first year and couldn't stay healthy his second.

I'm not saying he's a third liner, but I am saying depth is a (frank)ing issue.

Rookie's are frequently inconsistent. He got hurt blocking a shot I believe. Yes I have faith.

I'm saying it because this is why I'm frustrated, relative to sports of course lol. We needed a 2nd line winger and Ray gets Simmonds. bah.

Theres still a lot of offseason to go, and still multiple cap strapped teams. I'm still expecting Ray to make atleast one more move. Not saying he'll bring in a top 6 winger, but im expecting another trade at some point before camps start. In my eyes we still need a top 6 winger and a top 4 left handed D, and i think he still has another move up his sleeve to fill one of those holes. I'm not overly thrilled with the deal but Simmonds brings a lot to our lineup that we dont have and fills a need. Cant complain about him on a 1 year deal. He has a lot to prove this year and should be really motivated to get his game back on track, its a low risk and potential decently high reward

I think this was a good add. Stempniak and Maroon both came in and did better than I expected. I think Simmonds will follow suit. Today's NHL doesnt require tough guys really anymore, and he is no face puncher, but he isn't soft serve ice cream like most of our team. With guys like Bratt and Hughes we need some body to throw around when/if needed. We also have 2 black dudes now, which is cool.

But we could also use some size, toughness, and net front presence lower in the lineup. We got that with Simmonds.

where do you see Coleman playing? I saw him on the 3rd line RW. Now he gets bounced to the 4th? Nice for depth, but I though he did well with more responsibility and ice time.
It probably depends where Zacha plays, and what Boqvist looks like. we shall see.

I know people aren’t the biggest fan of him but I’d trade for tj Brodie. Maybe vats for him.

The Devils could have signed Gordie (frank)ing Howe in his prime and the people on this board would still be crying like the the miserable little dippoops they are.

We signed (frank)ing Wayne Simmonds to a 5 mill deal for one (frank)ing year! He is one of the few hockey players that I ever wanted to be wearing red and black outside of Kesel!

Be happy dippoops! This guy is a leader amongst boys and will protect our smaller forwards!

I have never seen so many pathetic people post crap just to post crap instead of being grateful for a GM that knows great hockey players and wants them wearing red and black.

Grow up you bumholes who have not watched WAyne bring the pain every time he’s played the Devs and now we have him for one year. Not two, not three but one year for him to skate on a third line or second and teach our kids how to play.

So sick of the stupidity here with idiots posting just to hear themselves talk when we just added a great player for a great bargain.

Grow up you idiot turds that have no clue what it takes to advance a hound core of talented kids with a wonderful vet like WS.

Still way too early to tell, could depend on who grabs the last couple spots at camp, who else we bring in, etc. We have a lot of flexibility which is nice though. Simmonds could fill in with Coleman-Zajac, could have a heavy "4th" line with Wood-Zacha, if he's truly healthy he could be with Bratt-Hughes or something similar.

I loved him in la and philly until recently. He’s just run down. Players like him are my favorite but they get run down. No highway miles, all road miles.

I feel the majority doesn’t like him, and I’m not certain why. I don’t watch the flames a lot but when I seen him play I like what I see.
