Dude it’s one year. - smellmyfinger
Right.. it's the whole season, not a whole week or day.. the whole season we're stuck with him. We're supposed to be moving forward not backward. |

because we've done so much good this offseason. we got lucky and landed the top prospect. we swung and landed a great top-pair dman. We have optimism in the development of Boqvist, Zacha, Butcher, SMITH. We have a healthy Hall and Palmieri.
and now we throw mud on the shiny car.. quicksand on the speedway.. we add a guy that can't skate to a team predicated on being, what was it? something like "attacking, relentless, fast".. i forget the quote. Is he even a good character guy? cuz on the ice he seems like a perpetual idiot.
We need COMPETENCE on the 2nd line, not "toughness". What good is being "tough" (and an idiot) if you can't hold it down and play with your linemates and not be a liability.
minimal confidence in Simmonds. I feel like we just made our team worse. Don't want him. Don't need him. Send him back! - MartysBetter88
When you get a brand new jeep wrangler you cant wait to get it muddy, because it adds character.

If he sucks he sits or gets put on waivers, there is quite literally no risk to this. His contract is not preventing us from signing or trading for anyone else and if we get lucky and get the Simmonds of two years ago then great.
And bonus points if he beats the poop out of Marchand or someone next year. |

he's the opposite of character, and he sucks. it's like driving a VW Beetle on a trail designed for your Wrangler.. |

Lets put things into perspective...
Do you HONESTLY think Shero would do something that'll hurt the team?
Shero has done such a great job. Im sure he signed him because there is more than what we can see. No way Shero gets a douchebag into this young lockeroom.
Also, little by little the team is looking like they drafted right outta Newark! |

I think Shero got desperate. I think Shero justified it in his mind. I also know Shero knows more than us, so I do trust him, but I also know the best GM's make mistakes. I'm not optimistic about Simmonds. |

You've hear of dune buggies?
Just teasing you.
It'll be OK. Not the best move to impress Taylor Hall or build a great team.
Players rebound and 31 isn't really old. So if he's good to go he is a good fit; even if he's not a guy you like. If he's done and plays like last year then it's just a waste. |

VW's aren't reliable vehicles, so we can add that to the analogy. You trust Simmonds to be our 2nd line RW? Heck no. We were talking about Bratt on the top line and Palmieri with Hughes. and what, Simmonds at LW? or 3rd line RW next to Zajac?? Coleman moved to the left side? I want him to make us better, and I'm not convinced he does.
We couldn't give Nyqvist 4yrs at 6mil?? 6.25? I'd do it. He'd actually make the 2nd line better. He'd actually benefit us. Anyone can be a "tough guy". We needed a consistent competent winger for Hughes, not to mention to give Hall some more optimism. |

Yes Simmonds has slowed down but we needed a player like him, someone who will go to the net and bang away
And also provide some toughness
I wonder if he will play on Hughes line to protect him and be a net front presence even though he is slow on the rush - dmarsden2988
It's funny, everybody wanted Maroon back and he's SLOWER then Simmonds....I think what he brings is much needed on this squad plus I feel if he's healthy we'll see a nice bump in his production especially if he plays with higher skilled players (Maybe Hughes/Bratt). |

Rags paid 11.6 per for Panarin. They never change. - redmonsters
This is probably the first time actually over paid an elite young player.
Most of the time they are good players on the decline. If you are going to overpay, do it for 8o plus point 27 year old |

BUT LOOK, WE GOT SIMMONDS.. he'll be the perfect 2nd line winger that we've been looking for!!! except he sucks and just like the kids, is far from a lock. He's a 3rd line winger at best.. and we have those already, and they're not overpriced douchebags. - MartysBetter88
I'm not consulted by team management on deals of this nature. Really they don't even know i exists to be completely honest. I stand by my initial comment. I would like to see a legit top 6 winger because the kids are unproven. I don't think Simmonds fits that role, but i certainly think this is a low risk signing with potential upside. If it makes you feel better look at him as a PP net-front replacement for the Boyle's and the Maroons of the world. Even with his terrible 2018-2019, he still almost had 20 goals. If he flops, we bench him and he is history at the end of the season. If he is good, we keep him or move him at the trade deadline for more assets. Step off the ledge. Free agency only opened 3 and a half hours ago. |

If they had an elite center that line could be historic. Thankfully, they don't. That line will still score nonetheless. |
