Dubas really got sucked in on this one.....really bad move is my thought....at least something else should have been included instead of Brown.....Dubas has ruined my Canada Day....should have figured something else out......this all started with Lou who should retire

Well, between Dubas and Lou they got us into this predicament....I have also been optimistic and positive with Dubas and the Leafs but for next year now I see a real down slide for the coming year....I want to say they are getting better and can go further but I don't see it....my optimism has been crushed and I see another knockout in the first round coming up to this point....real bad trade in my books anyway

Dubas has been the main one that has created this cap situation. Sure Lou signed Zeitsev, but it was Dubas that signed Tavarese, and then Matthews and now Marner to over 11 Mill a year. A lot of analysts saying how will they ever make it work. This is the price of having multiple superstars on the team

There is no harm to see the offer sheets for Marner and give him up for that offer sheet. There a lot of good Leaf players and depth ready to be called up.

Prob a 2020 3rd or 4th rd. pick -we'll see

I don't think you haven't been paying attention.

The RFA market changing, royally (frank)ed the Leafs. and other teams. Lou's bad contracts royally (frank)ed the Leafs.

So, Dubas had a HUGE cap problem to deal with. The Leafs did not want Marleau, Zaitsev, Brown contracts.

Dubas managed to get rid of these contracts

In terms of hockey value, obviously they lose out, but when you consider that ditching 13M or so in Cap, allows them to keep Nylander and Kadri and sign Marner, I think overall Dubas came out of a horrible situation pretty well.

Besides that, they have gaping holes on defense. Harpur is a warm body. They'll take a look and decide if he goes to the Marlies.

Fellas...if you think Connor Brown is the glue holding the Leafs together, feel free to jump ship and don't let the door hit you on the way out. He was only under contract for this year and wouldn't be resigned.
There's going to be stuff like this every year. It happens when you have multiple high dollar contracts. They can't keep every scrub who pulls on a fan's heart strings.
Cap space is the prize and the Leafs are getting it.

Also...where is the room for Brown? People complain they want some size and toughness but we have to keep all the players we currently have?
Guys like Korshkov, Mikheyev, Marchment, Moore all need spots or at least spots available to fight for.

Big Ben Harpur throws down quite well.

The leafs needed a player 6'6" 225 that defends his teammates with passion.
He provides protection & sandpaper & this will be very valuable - especially
Come playoff time.

No more liberties /cheap shots without anyone on the team doing anything
about it. A stay at home defenseman (18 mins per game) that plays with a
passion to make someone pay for (frank)ing with our guys is necessary for the
Leafs ... and will be great see eh boys !!

brown is only 2.1 on the cap thats why you trade nylander for an actual quality defenseman. dubas is horrible.

he's a 2nd line forward and excellent pk guy forced to play the 4th line due to roster depth.
