Has anyone brought up potentially trading for Kessel? I get that the Penguins would probably not want to trade him within the division, but it seems like they really want to move him and probably could be convinced to for an unimpressive return. Another guy like Subban who's contract is up in three years.

he'd ruin the lockeroom

Wow Buffalo gets Colin Miller from Vegas for a 2021 2nd and 2022 5th. Good on Buffalo taking advantage of Vegas' cap hell, nice add for them

If the Devils can finish this offseason by adding one more bonafide winger I'll be satisfied.

My thought is if they can't get a better free agent or trade option, sure. His contract expires same as Subban, playoff experience, compared to some other options is relatively cheap, scores and he likes hot dogs.

I still can't get over the Karlsson deal in SJ.. the money and term. crazy. over 11mil for endless years, then 8mil for Burns, 7mil for Vlasic.. 8 for Couture..7 for KANE. yikes. Good luck building a team.

Kane is overpaid by at LEAST 1mil. I noted them all to show how ill-fitting the Karlsson deal is, in the context of the other expensive players on that roster.

Yes, yes it is. In all the rumors you see, the Devils are not coonected to any. Its an overpay market. And any crazy expensive deal the Devils might do, they would then have to turn around and relatively have to offer Hall. And with other contracts coming do, a wrong move here could lead to cap hell.....

Yup exactly, which is why i dont see us really doing anything in free agency, i expect us to go into the season with how our roster is now. If we make any other moves, it'll likely be another trade instead of free agency, Ray has stayed away from overpaying players on the open market and i think he'll be smart again this year

Agreed, if we make any moves of note it will be to trade for a middle six winger. Bratt has shown that even though there are some deficiencies to his defensive game, a Hall-Hischier-Bratt line works.

Over the next two to three seasons they need to extend Hall and possibly Vatanen and Palmieri. That along with Bratt, Butcher, Blackwood, Hughes, Smith and Nico coming off of ELCs and that cap space will evaporate quickly. The only major contracts that will expire is Zajac and Greene.

We wanted elite talent and now we are starting to get it, but it does you no good if you can't manage it without winding up in cap hell.

We're in a relatively good spot cap wise. In 3 years Subban, Schneider, Zajac and Green will be off the books allowing us to pay the younger core guys.

right, but did you read the rest of his post? Even with those guys coming off the cap, it's basically a wash, because hopefully star players Hischier AND Hughes will need to be paid upwards of 7mil, unless they do a bridge deal. Blackwood will hopefully replace Schneider and have the same cap hit, if not more. Hall will be getting big bucks. If Smith develops into a top-pair guy, he's going to command top-pair money. Then you have guys like Bratt, Palmieri, another dman or 2 (since we kinda don't have many if you lose Subban, Vatanen, Greene), Zacha (if he actually turns into a substantial player). We SHOULD be fine, but we're not in a position to pay Hall AND a Panarin 11mil for long-term.. being that the rest of our cap situation, with guys leaving and guys getting new deals, will be about even.. if not worse. It would put us in a tight situation 4 years down the road.

The problem is Bratt doesn’t stay healthy and productive. Also he’s another smaller player. That’s why I’d be fine with picking up Corey Perry for a year. No big commit but a good veteran with size.

Yea, our top 6 depth isn't great. Even without an injury it's still a mystery who's going to get the final wing spot. Add an injury to it, and now you have what's probably 2 3rd line wingers playing on the 2nd line with either Hischier or rookie Hughes. Perry scares me. GIMME THE NYQVIST or Donskoi lol

You’re not wrong but I think the time frame isn’t as tight you think. Hischier is a couple years ahead of Hughes. And assuming Smith is going to a bank breaker is a bit premature.

We will be fine. We don’t even know we can resign Hall.

Yes those guys would be preferable. I’m just saying he could be an easy add. Maybe Pavelski?

It’s not the big move I want but it could be a good move. If he gets bought out and you can sign him cheap I’d do it. He’s big, a RW and young. Had a horrible year in Dallas.

that would be something. maybe I need to think more about today than tomorrow? I'm just thinking he's going to be a VERY expensive 3rd line player sooner than later. His playoff performance was epic, but he'll be 35 in a few weeks.

Pavelski is a hell of a players, but no way he takes a two year or so deal and beyond that he's a 37 year old making a large salary. Pass.
